Dawnx16 Posted May 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I recently bought a secondhand leica Q, it's pretty banged up on the outside but sensor and lens seems fine. I have a few questions about below: 1. Can I use SanDisk extreme pro UhS-ii? I tried it but the camera seem to freeze after taking picture (can see pic in EVF but camera is switched off) or have problem switching off and on. 2. I got the original leica battery seem to run out of juice very fast. I was playing round with the settings but the battery seems to do down to 1/3 after less than 1hr from full charge. Is this normal? The battery is about 4yrs old. Should I get a new battery? 3. How often do you service /clean your leica? Would you recommend getting 2nd hand cameras cleaned and checked over professionally? 4. There is a semi transparent patch on the EVF when in use which the seller said happened randomly. Has anyone seen this before? It doesn't seem to have impact on the quality of the pictures though, but I don't know how much it will take to resolve if one day I want to correct it. Thanks a lot for your patience.

jaapv Posted May 27, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 27, 2021 It does not sound like a camera I would buy... A digital camera normally does not require service, but it sounds like this one needs an (expensive) trip to Wetzlar.
marchyman Posted May 27, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 27, 2021 The tech specs for the Q say UHS-I. I currently use a UHS-I SanDisk Extreme PRO 32 GB card without issue. Prior to this card I was using 8 GB Cards that eventually started giving me errors. Battery use: My Q has high battery usage and has been that way since new. I accept it. Still, after 4 years I did get a new battery. Now I get about 50 shots/battery charge instead of 35. I've never done more to my Q than wipe the outside and use a Lenspen once in a rare while. Have you tried to format the SD Card with the cameras format tool? vor 14 Stunden schrieb Dawnx16: 2. I got the original leica battery seem to run out of juice very fast. I had no particular problems with the battery life, maximum photos I took without draining the battery was about 80 and that's more than I take usually per day. You may buy a new one, maybe it will give you a longer battery life with the new one, if not you will still have a longer battery life as you will have two batteries. vor 15 Stunden schrieb Dawnx16: . How often do you service /clean your leica? Would you recommend getting 2nd hand cameras cleaned and checked over professionally? There is no reason to service/clean a camera without a reason to do so. One of the reasons to do so is the common problem with dust inside the camera and/or the EVF. Some users tape off the mic and speaker openings to avoid that, but there are polemics about how useful that is. I did it and still had dust on the sensor after 1 Month, even if I taped off both openings. As it was a used camera and I did not used her in particular dust environment I guess that the dust was already inside. Tape it off if you believe that that it will help to avoid dust inside, leave it open if you don't believe that or need the video function vor 15 Stunden schrieb Dawnx16: There is a semi transparent patch on the EVF when in use which the seller said happened randomly. The quality of the Q EVF is ways below than the Q2 EVF, but it should have no transparent patches. As you already bought the camera I would either a) send the Q to Leica to clean it inside even if there is no dust visible and replace the lcd panel of the EVF and/or do a total control and overhaul b) ignore the problems and use her until the problems become "critical" Consider that cleaning inside and replacing the EVF will be a hefty bill, probably not worth the money ....
