i do not agree with this at all, Marc

what did you think of that....? , Marc

Sorry, but I do not understand what you wanna say? For sure you do not mean that this photo is a pro for a veil? To me it is just an accessory to make a photo more interesting. This kind of veil you also find in southern Italy as well as in the rural Bavaria where I live. It is for sure not a political statement, but I am sure you know this

Ingrid makes a good point, there is a melancholy to the models face, but I like the photo though.

of course, melancholy or sadness is always part of a portrait - so, completely legitimate
i might have to emphasize again: the veil sits for my terms and for this representation not advantageous - the folds of the veil visibly connect with the loose strands of hair - it almost seems to admit a "beard growth" on the far right of the cheek ..... the two long veil folds seen in the middle are extremely annoying to me and therefore do not contribute to sadness or melancholy - more distance between the veil and face would have been good

I see what you mean Ingrid and for sure you are right with all the things you said. But it is this imperfection of the photo which I like a lot.  Sadness and melancholy, you do not care so much how you look, whether the veil is not in an optimal position, you are alone with your feelings behind a veil. More distance between the face and the veil is a very good idea, it increases the distance to the person. I will have a shooting this week, maybe I will test your suggestion.

of course .... when you are surrounded by sadness and melancholy, everything seems to matter -

but even then there is perfection or even harmony ........ which rounds everything off for me

i'm curious......:)

It is true that in a photography site, we should always look for the composition, contrast, and the overall quality of a picture; and thanks God, we are all different with different tastes and points of view, which makes photography so interesting and "universal"! But we always learn from others, besides our own personal experiences!

As for the sad expression of the model in this shot; I would say, why not! A subject can be happy, sad, funny or anything else. If I can recall, once it was said this beautiful person was Persian (Iranian)! Therefore, as I have been told  many times by my Iranian friends, women are not free in their actual form of government to wear whatever they wish or to even go wherever they wish to. Some very strict rules are imposed to them. Then, I can understand the sadness of this person! Her melancholia  makes sense to me!...
