I've seen some discussion of the LUTs and where they are used, and one comment that having L-log supported with a LUT made the "intelligent dynamic range" for 10 bit video unnecessary.  But I was intrigued with the focus following automation setup.  There are six pages on the manual devoted to explaining all of its steps, but it is actually quite straightforward,.   The transitions are smooth.  You set the specified distances by focusing (with magnification) on the LCD, not on the viewfinder, but at least that is pretty accurate.  The transitions between preset focal distances are smooth.  I assume this is to help out the single shooter who doesn't have a sound man and a focus puller, but it still requires using touch input, so is probably best confined to a tripod.  Can someone with DP or cameraman experience comment on how useful this really is?  And how does it compare with functions offered on pure video cameras?
