empty: adjective (emptier, emptiest) 1 containing nothing; not filled or occupied. 2 having no meaning or likelihood of fulfilment: an empty threat. 3 having no value or purpose.

So, regarding 1 stnami is sortawrong, for starters he is in the world, which makes it surely NOT empty, perhaps even kind of full :p of course, my only proof of his existence are these posts in the forum, which is a very thin proof of existence for a whole human being... :p

in 2 and 3, there's plenty of room for a discussion, I'm surprised the thread didn't turn in that direction, but I guess people isn't feeling too philosophical :D

...I find that your photos are often too dark...
Actually, it's the darkness in them that I like, because it's an exoerssion of reality. Today, in Tokyo, I saw an exhibition of some 20 pictures of Hawaii by Moriyama Daido, who has just published a book of some 400 pages on this subject. It is a drak vision of Hawaii, but some of the darkness brings out the brigthness — of the beach, of the surf. I bought another recent Moriyama book, best translated as "Danger Zone/Erotica", a series of his pictures from around the world: nothing erotic about them literally, but only a poetic allusion. It's too bad that only Japan has a rather large market for good photo books.

Anyway, I'm interested in dark themes because, living in Bangkok, with tourists thinking they see only happines and the government pushing the "land of smikes" themes, I appreciate reality, which is what I trying to do with my Bangkok series book project that you nay have seen on my flickr site.

I have to agree that Stnami's images are very good... His writing style notwithstanding, I think his images are interesting, many even compelling. Not necessarily to my tastes, but nonetheless I can appreciate the clearly cohesive style and general quality shown in his work. Moreover, it's all presented in a style that seems to mirror his personality -- at least the one he presents in this forum.

Cheers,

I may be the odd man out here (not an unusual position for me), but I really appreciate both stnami's photos and his posts. For me, the common thread in both is that you have to think a bit to really get at what's going on.

I do struggle to understand why he raises the ire of some people on this forum who are otherwise usually calm and thoughtful.

My only complaint about stnami is that is contributes very little about how he executes what he does... I've read his posts where he says he just messes around and sees what comes out. This may be true at some level but the consistency of his work suggests there is more of a pattern... please share more of your knowledge.

I would have liked to have seen his gallery exhibit. The images are compelling to me at least most of them. The dark brings out the subject.

I think imants pokes at certain people to get them out of the gear head mode and talk more about the artistic styles of photography. Cheers to that...we don't do enough of that IMHO. and the fact he is in Ward 017 :-)
