Herr Barnack Posted April 15, 2021 Share #4 Posted April 15, 2021 (edited) @cobbu2 You captured some great images! Good work! The rock formations coupled with the bizarre looking Joshua Trees give off an otherworldly vibe. I've never been there but have wanted to go. Now I want to go even more. If you haven't been to Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, it is worth a visit if you are out west. At 40,000 acres, it is much smaller (1/20th the size) than the sprawling Joshua Tree N.P., but it is a fantastic destination for a landscape photographer: http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire Edited April 15, 2021 by Herr Barnack

This looks like an outstanding destination (and relatively easy to access), I'll have to add this to my list. It appears some areas resemble "The Wave" of the Coyote Buttes fame, but without the access hassles. I have a Zion/Bryce Canyon trip planned for mid-August, if I end up having a spare day, we may check it out. Otherwise, maybe in the fall/spring when it's cooler! 4 hours ago, wda said: Allan, lovely images. Especially Penguin rocks against the light. Outstanding. Thanks David! That was pretty much my toughest shot, it cries out to be photographed (many have done so with wonderful results). I had time constraints that day and the light was far from ideal for that particular subject/location; I was uneasy about the strong mid-day backlighting, so I went for the somewhat silhouetted approach. 2 hours ago, stuny said: A beautiful set of a too little known outside of California, NP Thanks Stuart! It's one of the more lovely but better-kept secrets in the National Park system, although some spots can still get relatively busy.
stuny Posted April 15, 2021 Share #10 Posted April 15, 2021 Probably the busiest places are the rock climbing areas. The town of Nine Palms is charming, has many nice murals, and the Nine Palms Inn has fine lodging and food.

Yes, especially around the Skull Rock area; I got several images of the rock, but only one was devoid of people and it was average at best. I'd love to return and those murals sound intriguing. We did do an afternoon excursion to Pioneertown, very interesting! Edited April 15, 2021 by cobbu2
