mike_j Posted August 26, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted August 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just had to buy a new DSLR following an accident and decided to go with the Olympus 4/3 system E510. It seemed much better specified and cheaper than the the Digilux/Panasonic but still offers the interchangeability of four thirds system lenses. Â Any advice please - anyone tried Leica lenses on the Oly or vice versa. At present Oly seem to have much the better choice of lens.
Advertisement Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Hi mike_j, Take a look here Olympus e 510 with Leica lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted August 26, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted August 26, 2007 Leica has only two lenses, and the Olympus 14-54 is arguably better than the Leica lens, as tested recently in a German magazine. The 25 Lux is unique though.
bill Posted August 26, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted August 26, 2007 Mike, I'm using my 25mm Summilux on an Olympus e-400. The lens is a bulky partner to the diminutive body, but delivers excellent results. All my other lenses are Oly - the kit 14-45 and 40-150 (both exceptional) and the 14-54 and 50 from the pro-line. The Panasonic holds it's own in this company very well. There are no compatibility issues, btw - it's an open standard, after all. Â Regards, Â Bill
bbodine9 Posted August 27, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted August 27, 2007 Mike, I have just recently received the Leica D 25mm f1.4 and I am using it with the Oly E-1 with excellent results. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with the Zuiko 14-54 or 50-200 lenses they are both very good. It really depends in my opinion what you want intend to photograph with the lens / camera combo. The IS should be a big plus on the 510. Hope this helps.
Bo_Lorentzen Posted August 27, 2007 Share #5  Posted August 27, 2007 Yes I have tried the Leica zoom on the olympus 510, it works beautifully, but I am not sure that it is any better than the before mentioned 14-54 from Olympus.:-)  Bo   My Leica scratch page - random thoughts , pictures and such. marknorton Posted August 27, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted August 27, 2007 I agree that the Olympus cameras and system are a much more attractive offering than the feeble Panasonic/Leica efforts to date. Credit to Olympus for persevering with it but you wonder whether Panasonic/Leica's heart is really in it.
Riley Posted August 27, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted August 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) its true they can do better we probably dont know enough about L10 to call it in yet though more lenses would be a very worthwhile and exploitable situation Olympus system is quite short of primes, of those in particular a wide prime and some compact lenses would be very very welcome. Perhaps even a fast OIS lens around 300mm
Bo_Lorentzen Posted August 27, 2007 Share #8  Posted August 27, 2007 Riley,  WIth the E-510 having IS in the body, does that not kind of take care of the 300mm OIS.? One could pick the 300 2.8 and use it succesfully. close comparison to a regular sports 300 would be the 150 2.0 ?  So now what we really want is to see the Digilux 4 with IS and 10+ megapix. I would like to think it would be more of a Leica effort and less of a re-badge job. :-) but I still love my Digilux 3   Bo  My Leica scratch page - random thoughts , pictures and such.
