I have recently -- like, four days ago -- acquired this lens to go with my SL2-S. I'm delighted with it. But I have an odd problem which I am convinced is an example of imbecilic user error on my part, but which I have not so far succeeded in resolving.

Namely: The manual focus ring is immobile. I have failed to find a way to unlock it and focus manually.

I reset the camera; I set focus mode to MF; I made sure Standard MF was selected in MF Setup. Is there some other setting of which I should be aware? It's not exactly an enormous menu system, and I thought I'd rambled to the end of every forking branch.

If anyone has a clue why I'm failing here, I'd be delighted to hear, and I shan't grudge the respondent a good laugh at my expense...

Thank you!

if you are trying to manual focus please remember there is  a firmware update for the lens that enable the ability of linear focus, and in the menu you fill find an option for how much you want to turn.

Sometime is useful to know that when you are in MF you can still AF by pushing the joystick  in. and then the lens parks there.

Another note, If you are in AFs and hold down the shutter bottom 1/2 way you can then turn the lens to refine focus in manual with magnification.

Thank you, Photoworks -- useful info. I'm still teaching myself the AF system on the SL2-S, since I was more closely familiar with Canon's. I need to re-read the pertinent sections of the manual, as there appear to be multiple contingencies intersecting to decide what the camera does. And thanks darlyglo and beewee for not mocking me ruthlessly, which is what I deserved!

I'll get me coat.

Julian,

I’m sure you’ll enjoy the VE 24-90. I enjoyed your smugmug photos. Well taken and processed.
