Mick H Posted March 29, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the S1H, but a version with FF 4K60p (S1R has this) or even FF 4K120p would be useful. The option to shoot 61 MP stills with strobes and HSS would be welcome. An "S1H-R" would make a great B-Cam or A-Cam to my S1H. PDAF would help keep me in the L mount camp when I need to shoot action or sports. The fp L ushers in a new era in L mount. The PDAF functionality will hopefully evolve to catch up to the competitors. The fp L lacks a mechanical shutter which I need for my work. S1H V Log is so easy to work with and grade that I have no need for RAW options at this time. Similar fp L color modes like T & O and Powder Blue would be great additions to the S1H. Advertisement Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Hi Mick H, Take a look here Next Gen S1R and S1H with the 61 MP BSI PDAF Sensor?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
steveBK Posted March 30, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 30, 2021 The sensor seems to have pretty big rolling shutter issues, so I doubt it would be directly adapted to one of the Panasonic video centric models
caissa Posted April 3, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2021 (edited) The sensor is ok in the fp L. But it is not really that great, that it should be in a second L-mount camera. For a video centric camera it is probably the wrong choice. Readout time is only 1/10 s . Have you seen videos with the a7R4. I think they are not interesting. Other sensors are much better. So better wait for another better sensor. pdaf pixels in the sensor is only half the technology needed. Maybe more important is the af software. Sony has an excellent algorithm, but they will probably not sell it. It remains to be seen what Sigma can achieve regarding software for pdaf. It's interesting that Panasonic, Sigma, and Leica have all designed their own sensors (in cooperation with specialized partners, no doubt). I'm sure that Panasonic will do this again for their next generation "hi res" camera. If not, they will at least go with an all- new sensor, not one that's been available in competing cameras for a while. I love that Sigma went with such an unexpected choice for the fp-L. Their Foveon sensor isn't ready for L-Mount, but they could have gone with a more mainstream option. I can't wait to see lots of real-world results. So far everything I've seen has been quite exciting, other than Gerald Undone (who tested it from a completely different point of view).

A more powerful processor will need to be used.
steveBK Posted April 10, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 10, 2021 Interesting in a more scientific video-centric review in which the reviewers had some back & forth with Sigma.. they got rolling shutter down to the 17-20ms range in some modes, which is quite reasonable. https://www.cined.com/sigma-fp-l-lab-test-rolling-shutter-dynamic-range-and-latitude/ I do wonder if firmware & the settings chosen are big factors here. It's kind of a tempting camera honestly.
