drneilgoodwin Posted March 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) When AF field focusing is selected, with its adjustable field size, the menu in the EVF disappears. So, if I want to make pre-shot adjustments when looking through the EVF, for example exposure comp, I have to look at the rear screen. This doesn’t happen with any of the other focusing options and I don’t understand why. I’d be grateful for any advice.
Advertisement Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Hi drneilgoodwin, Take a look here Q2 menu disappears in EVF. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
drneilgoodwin Posted March 27, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted March 27, 2021 Apologies but I have sorted this just now, by trial and error. Apparently, when touch AF is ‘on’ then the review menu doesn’t appear in the EVF, so setting it to ‘off’ is the answer for me as I won’t be using touch AF. Furthermore, when touch AF is off then the size of the field for focusing cannot be adjusted. Again, not an issue for me. All interesting detail - useful to know for the future. gteague Posted March 27, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 27, 2021 i think it's a little more complicated than that. i have to shoot left-eyed so first thing i do is turn off touch screen because my nose ends up focusing and changing settings. but on some leicas the touch screen is still active. for example, you can still swipe up/down, left/right for playback and video mode. when you have af set to field mode and you touch the screen with your finger or your nose even with the touch function off, the field box becomes active so that you can drag it or use the arrows to increase or decrease the size of it. worse, the camera 'locks up' until you press /ok/ or half press the shutter button. it's waiting for you to change the field size. for me, it's a horrible bug because the alternative, using the spot af mode has a tiny little plus sign that virtually unseeable. when i first got the q2 i started a thread about his a couple months ago and learned that my q2 didn't really hate me, it was indeed something everyone who shot left-eyed using af field mode thought leica needed to address. /guy
drneilgoodwin Posted March 27, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted March 27, 2021 Thanks. Yes, I’m the same - I shoot left eye too. I’ll watch out for my nose affecting the touch screen.
HighlandK Posted March 27, 2021 Share #5 Posted March 27, 2021 Yep, likewise. I reported to Leica UK and they finally acknowledged it as an issue. But I guess don't hold your breath. The work around I have adopted is to use point AF which doesn't have a resize option.
drneilgoodwin Posted April 3, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted April 3, 2021 Thanks Andy. I was wrong - my solution of turning off touch AF hasn't worked and like you I'm having to resort to point AF, which is hardly a satisfactory solution. I too will report it to Leica but it can only really be sorted with a firmware update. As a mainly street photographer who makes adjustments 'on the go' I consider this a major flaw with the Q2.
