01maciel Posted March 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Zeiss is obviously getting cold feet due to the new APOs from Leica and Voigtlander. There is currently a sales promotion for the Zeiss Distagon T* 1.4/35 ZM (at least in Germany). In the last few months I was thinking of this lens and just on the verge of buying it I noticed the promo. The postman delivered it today and brought a brand new Distagon in silver. Luckily I could go out for short walk to shoot some photos. Fantastic lens so far. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Hi 01maciel, Take a look here ZEISS Distagon T* 1.4/35 ZM. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

The new 35mm Apo Voigtländer does not look very attractive when looking at the specs. It is 39 g lighter, but 2mm longer, 3mm thicker, slower( f 2) and not FLE. So, not very tempting for me. And we have not seen how grainy the bokeh-balls of the Apo are. (My 1,2/35 Nokton v1 shows onion-rings.) I have the Distagon for over 5 years, and I am quite happy with it, apart from its weight and size. (Having 8 Voigtländer M mount lenses and only 7 from ZEISS, I am not biased, I think ... ) Perhaps Apo will become a new marketing trend, now that aspherical lenses become common, even in low-cost lenses (SONY). Dennis Posted March 25, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 25, 2021 (edited) Considering the size and weight of both lenses, probably I would buy the Distagon. The extra stop, and with this remarkable performance wide open, and almost the lack of flaws. But after buying my TT 35/1.4 which is i like to use, specially wide open, I made the decision don't buy long and heavier lenses than 300gr (approx). But I would love to have the Distagon too because it's a stellar lens. Edited March 25, 2021 by Dennis
01maciel Posted March 25, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted March 25, 2021 The weight doesn't bother me, lucky me. The Distagon is a leightweight compared to the Noctilux 50 - and tiny too 📉. In the end it is all personal taste and preferences. My copy is silver. It looks decent and way better than in black (with the rediculous chrome ring)

Therefore, my favourite 35mm lens is my LEITZ Summicron v4. I find the Distagon in silver better looking, too. Mine is black. I bought it used ... ---

I wouldn't judge the APO-Lanthar so hastily we haven't seen a lot of samples yet, but it does look very good from what I've seen. according to the specs sheet it is FLE, and the weight is 381g on the Distagon ZM and 304g on the APO-Lanthar VM, so much lighter. gotium Posted March 25, 2021 Share #7 Posted March 25, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Probably the best IQ of my M lens experience, and much less expensive than Leica's offerings. Wondering when we will see comparisons with the new Leica 35 APO? Edited March 25, 2021 by gotium

Guest Posted March 25, 2021 Share #11 Posted March 25, 2021 The distagon is my best lens,i like its incredible sharpness and beautiful rendition. Its obvious weakness is its relatively large size in leica M land which is a fair criticism of course. It will be interesting to see any reviews comparing the zeiss with the leica and voigtlander 35mm apo lenses but the extra stop for low light or shallow depth of field use make any comparison meaningless if a user really wants that f1.4 lens. Still of interest of course although most reviews have a clear bias in my view.
Narsuitus Posted March 25, 2021 Share #12 Posted March 25, 2021 (edited) Based on my experience with a Nikon 35mm f/1.4 for my film SLR, I knew I wanted a 35mm f/1.4 for my film rangefinder. The 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss Distagon was the first lens I purchased for my Leica M6 35mm rangefinder. Now, I also use the Distagon on my M10. Welcome, dear visitor! The Distagon renders very unique and it clearly outperforms my Summicron 35 ASPH (current version). Bias might be an issue due to the blue dot glued on the lens. Ray Vonn Posted March 27, 2021 Share #19 Posted March 27, 2021 What a brilliant lens. I can see why people find it better then anything from Leica. Optically it’s going to be hard trying to find something to whinge about.
