Leica web site today: 50mm 1.4 silver Summiliux Apsh 335 grams, Leica 50mm 1.4 black Summilux Asph 335 grams, Black Chrome "made from solid brass" 460 grams. I guess Leica has made a mistake in their web site and you guys are all correct instead......

Hopefully this will convince you that the silver chrome 50 lux is made of brass!

Of course it was, I said that many posts back, but this is an old lens which is no longer offered by Leica as a new offering. Again just look at Leica's web site today and you will not see this lens listed, only the alloy bodied silver anodized version. I own the contemporary version in black chrome which is available from Leica currently and is made from brass and does weigh 460 grams per Leica's current listings. I am out of this rather silly post but if you want to keep posting pictures of a lens that has not been manufactured in quite a number of years that is of course your choice.

In prior posts you argued that the silver chrome lens was made of alloy.  We simply pointed out that it is in fact made of brass.

Not sure where you get your info that the silver chrome was discontinued.  It is still sold by Leica on their online website:

Most of the main dealers here and in the US are also listing the brass chrome in stock - none are listing a silver anodised version.

Leica have always made the less popular variants in batches when supply needs dictate.

(I wish they would make the black chrome in silver chrome!)

Oh my this is becoming comical. I never said the silver chrome was discontinued but that the brass version was and that is a fact, Leica no longer nor has made the silver version of the 50 1.4 in brass and has not for now quite a few years. If you want a brass bodied Leica 50 1.4 Summilux Aspherical lens you will have to buy a black chrome version unless yes of course a dealer has left over older inventory. Who's on first?

If you want to keep the banter going to convince yourself and anyone else that Leica currently makes in their new offerings a silver version in brass then that of course is your prerogative.

Me. You still need to provide us the evidence for your claim that a silver aluminium 50mm  Summilux lens is available. Some evidence to support your claim that the silver chrome (it is only 'chrome' if it is on brass) has been dropped from the line would also be helpful. We need all statements based on substantiated fact.

By the way, you can get the year of manufacture of any lens from the serial#.

This is false. I bought a silver brass 50 Lux from leica 30 days ago and there are plenty of them brand new at all leica dealers. My lens was manufactured 11/2020.

Stop spreading fake news.

They won’t be able to provide any such evidence because it is false. It’s like that annoying kid in school that very clearly got tagged during dodge ball but ends up ruining the game because they can’t admit they are wrong.

Oh my this is quite entertaining now. I clearly said that the "current" Leica lens offerings from Leica do not include a brass bodied version in silver anodization for the 50 1.Lux Asph and that is a fact and the simple proof is just look at the Leica corporate web site today for clarification. After 50 years of doing this and currently owning 27 Leica M lenses beginning with my from new '68 1.2 Noctilux on up it appears I have no clue what I am doing nor what is being offered, and you boys are obviously far smarter than I am so knock yourself's out, you win.

I found the thread I referenced earlier. @dkmooreand @JimmyChengmake two people who've purchased new lenses which are still brass, which I suppose should put the issue to bed (or well, maybe not if one continues to insist otherwise). I admit I did think (for a few years) they phased out the silver 50lux asph brass for anodised ones but reading about JimmyCheng's experience changed that.

My brass 50 Lux was manufactured in November, 2020 and purchased in February 2021. I happen to know said dealer got another brass lens in after I bought mine.

Additionally, they are making the brass body lens and selling the Portugal version as well.

You are very simply wrong. Who cares how many lenses you have. Are you saying that I can’t go out and buy 27 lenses tomorrow? Whoops.

Call leica Miami, Popflash, leica soho, they will all tell you the silver (brass) 50 Lux is still made and being delivered to dealers. They were also added to the Portugal line. There really is no argument. (These comments are not directed at you ChasD

I think you need to go back to basics and understand some facts. As I have tried to tell you, brass lenses aren't 'anodised' as aluminium lenses are, they are 'chromed' using a totally different finishing process. So your description makes no sense. Please, please go and check this out.

These posts stay available for a long time, so I think it is important they are accurate for future reference.

I think you meant to quote inside line. I have not claimed the brass lenses are silver anondIzed.

The problem here is simply one of semantics and somewhat sly marketing from Leica.

The fact is if a lens is listed as "silver" or "black" it is not brass if a lens is listed as "silver chrome" or "black chrome" its brass

If I am wrong then Leica is wrong as if you go to the USA web site there is no mention of the brass version in silver being available, just the black chrome, and that is all I was going off of, and it is great you have been able to purchase a silver brass bodied version but it is not on Leica's list of available models. I am not a child so please do not talk to me like one, thank you. Yes I own many Leica lenses which started with my Dad's 1968 purchase of our 1.2 Noctilux, and then myself with my first E58 F1 Noctilux in 1975 right out of high school and I continued to buy every significant Leica lens since then which I have kept all of them, then in turn I took over 250,000 negatives and I processed most in my dark room over 40 of these years so I am not a newbie hiding behind my computer, and on the current available lens facts I simply used Leica's USA corporate web site for the information.
