Hi everyone. I am wondering if this has happend to anyone else...

My M8 seems confused. The viewfinder indicators keep blinking telling me underexposure even when I change aperture and shutter to compensate. When I point the camera at a lightsource the display jumps to a blinking "8000" with no shutter speeds in between.

I have tried reinstalling the firmware (1.107) changing batteries, memory cards and lenses to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have never heard of this one before. Try leaving out the battery overnight, which will do a total reset of the camera. It takes a little while to run down the little battery inside, so it needs to be for hours. Recharge the battery meanwhile. Lots of weird symptoms are caused by nearly-dead batteries. Do you have a second one to try instead? If not, and the overnight reset doesn't work, try buying another battery, or borrowing one temporarily from your dealer.

Can you get an accurate reading in manual mode?

The symptoms sound similar to those I had when my R9's photocell died and needed to be replaced. If a "reset" of the camera electronics doesn't fix the problem, it may be a photocell problem.

Sounds very similar to a problem I once had with an R7. The metering circuit had to be replaced.

So.. leaving the battery out overnight made no difference...

Anymore ideas anyone?

Of course the M8 craps out 1 week before the job I bought it for...

nice.

Thanks all. I bought the camera in San Francisco but am now in Canada. I am assuming it is a worldwide warranty so tomorrow I will go to my local Leica shop and see what they can do for me...

Thanks for all your suggestions!

I wouldn't even bother with your local Leica dealer, since you didn't buy it there, and just send the camera off to Leica NJ USA.
