helged Posted March 14, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello! I am pondering on a project with Lumix S1R or S5, with * 21mm or wider focal length, with * good corner sharpness (stoppe down a little), and with * a lens that is not particularly prone to flare. For this project, expensive lenses like SL16-35 are out of question. The lens could be fully manual. I have the Voigtlander 15mm Super-Heliar III. This lens is fine on M and SL, but it shows some edge/corner smearing on S1R/S5. Any suggestions? Is Sigma 20-60mm (@20mm) an alternative?

I also have a Konica Hexanon Dual 21-35 that I haven’t had a chance to try on a Lumix S1R yet but will shortly.
BernardC Posted March 15, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 15, 2021 You may want to look at the Laowa wides. They have two 15mm L-Mount lenses, and a 10-18mm zoom. I have the 15/2.0, and it's very good. The major issue is that it focuses the wrong way (Nikon direction, not Leica direction), which I find extremely annoying. I mostly use it in "super 35" crop mode for video, but it holds-up in the corners in full-frame mode. The Panasonic 16-35 is also supposed to be excellent. A little more expensive, but I'm sure there are deals to be found.

I did test the 21 Super-Elmar-M on the S5 (with the Leica adapter) today; the edges were a little soft up to and including f5.6, but had a fine sharpness at f8 and f11 (with diffraction kicking in at about f13). Helge have you tried the Sigma 14-24mm f2.8? It's very good.

I even think a little about substituting the SL16-35 with the Sigma 14-24. Not that I don't like the SL16-35 (it's brilliant!), but it will 'free' some money, for instance for one of the wide SL Crons coming in 2021/22.
Marc Tenner Posted March 16, 2021 Share #7 Posted March 16, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would guess the Voigtländer 21 1.4 is what you are searching for. Lightroom offers a lens profile to compensate its only „weakness“: vignetting. 1

Ivar B Posted March 19, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 19, 2021 What about the Pana 16-35? An excellent lens which should meet your requirements very well.

Yes, this is another lens to consider... Many options out there (which is good, but also somewhat 'complicated').
