Getting closer - Haoge macro adapter with Voigtlander Nokton 40 and Apo-Lanthar 50

From Jonathan's fine report on the Apo-Summicron-M 35 the new lens is tantalizing (what new Leica lens is not). One aspect that really intrigues me is the close focus option. I've always loved the versatile range of the Macro-R lenses (60 and 100 apo) in my film days and have been excited to bring them back to life with the Leica SL. The other day I searched around for a macro adapter that might bring this flexibility to my M mount lenses. In addition to the Leica Macro Adapter M (I found a well priced used one for sale and bought it to try) I came across a Chinese macro adapter marketed by Haoge. It is an M-L adapter, so designed for providing close focus for an M lens on the Leica SL series or other L mount camera. The adapter is sold on Amazon and runs less than US$100. It arrived today... a very nicely made adapter with good heft and tight tolerances. At minimum extension it appears to provide the same dimension as the Leica adapter M-L (I didn't test shoot at infinity but the lens seems to come to focus) and adds about 5mm of additional distance between the lens and camera at maximum extension. I ran a few tests using two VM lenses - samples shared below. I was pleased with the results. A simple addition to the camera case that might be fun to have while waiting for the Apo-35 to arrive... ;^)

VM Nokton 40 f1.2 - These shots stopped down to f2. Normal minimum focus distance is 50cm.

Had to run out for a bit between lenses, so lower sun and different lighting in the second batch - VM Apo-Lanthar 50 at f2. Minimum focus distance on this lens is 70cm.

Walking around the house with my Elmarit-M 90, 28 and VM Apo-Lanthar 50 to get more of a sense of the Haoge adapter. It is a bit much with 28mm - subtle with 90mm but overall, a nice feeling to be able to move in a little closer with each lens. Obviously, live view focusing is a must. The lenses are mounted on a Sigma fp.
