m410 Posted March 11, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Except for my very first M4 in Black-Chrome back in 1972, I have been exclusively an owner/user of Silver-Chrome Leica M cameras. Always felt that Silver-Chrome was a more durable finish over Black-Chrome or paint. But I am now considering "breaking out" with a new M10R body in Black-Chrome. Problem is most all of my accessories / lenses etc. are Chrome-Silver which I would like to continue using. QUESTION: Does anyone have an image or opinion on the combination of a Black-Chrome M body, Silver-Chrome Leica Grip, Silver-Chrome lenses and possibly a Silver-Chrome viewfinder or Thumbs-Up? Thanks for any opinions or images. jDD Edited March 11, 2021 by m410 yes
Advertisement Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Hi m410, Take a look here BLACK BODY, SILVER GRIP and SILVER LENS COMBINATION?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Herr Barnack Posted March 11, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2021 IMHO, a chrome M lens on a black m body works - it is a bit of different look from what we are used to seeing but it does not look bad or weird (to my eye, that is). The accessories you are thinking of using on your soon to be acquired black M10R take the chrome on black look to the next level. Whether this look is appealing to your eye is something that only you can say. If possible, take your chrome grip, lens and Thumbs Up to the Leica dealer where you plan on buying your M10R and ask to put them on to a black M10 to see how they look. If they have a display M10 (new) or a used M10, I would think they would be happy to help out. After all, you are getting ready to grace their coffers with $8300 USD.
TomB_tx Posted March 11, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2021 I had also preferred chrome camera bodies since 1965 (and my M4 in 1968), but did add a black chrome M6 in 1985. I've mixed all combinations since then, find them all fine. After all, early Leica's were black with silver (Nickle or chrome) lenses, knobs, winders, etc.

I like the combination. But is this combination heavier than the black variant? I was under the impression the silver summicron asph is also made of aluminum just like the black one? That's the limited edition left eyed M10 Monochrom, mounted with the limited edition DaVinci reversed engraving 50mm Summicron APO. Both are extremely hush hush as only a few of each were made. m410 Posted March 17, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted March 17, 2021 Well, I have decided to go with a M10R in black-chrome and it is on order. Guess we will see how it looks and I will post a few pics of the silver-chrome and black body combination. Thanks for all the photo examples and opinions. jDD
Skip Heitzig Posted March 19, 2021 Share #14 Posted March 19, 2021 I too have had several chrome bodies but ordered a black this time around. I love the black and chrome lens combo. Looking forward to seeing your setup! SH
m410 Posted March 22, 2021 Author Share #15 Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) Couldn't wait for Black M10R delivery so I thought I would mix and match black/silver combinations with a volunteered M4. Btw, the grip fits over the M4 body dimensions but doesn't actually attach except with the help of gravity. Welcome, dear visitor! Mine, the version 5 is about 335gr. Approximately 100 grams heavier than the black version which is equal to 35 summilux..

Ah don’t tease me. I would love a Leica M that drives on the wrong side. I’m left eye dominant so need to squeeze my massive nose up against the screen to use the RF.
