I just found this group and joined last night.
I have a small Leica collection, a screw mount iiif, double stroke M3, M4-2, R3MOT, 2 R4 and a R6.
I have a question about one of the R4 cameras. When the shutter button is pressed there i a short hesitation before the shutter fires. I would estimate the pause to be about 1/250th of a second, based on comparing the length of time before th shutter fires in relation to various shutter speeds.
Battery seems OK.
What could be causing this delay?

My suspicions would lie with a dry solder joint or poor connection in the battery compartment. It would be worth, as a quick and easy fix before diving deeper, having a thorough clean of the battery compartment with switch cleaner fluid (Servisol or similar). Don't forget to clean the male and female threads on the cap of the battery compartment, which form part of the battery circuit. I was given a free and apparently dead R4-MOT attached to a 500-MR Telyt Mk.2 lens I bought. All it needed was the top cover taking off and a thorough clean of the contacts on the mode selector, shutter speed and ISO controls. It now works perfectly. If you do this be very careful of the very thin wires and ribbon cables. Take a digital photo of their position when you first lift the top and put them back in exactly the same place when reassembling.
