M9 with 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar.

We used to have an aviation training school in Subic Bay and so I used to visit the Philippines regularly; the courses were two weeks in duration and so one weekend I took the opportunely to fly to Palawan. Wonderful place to relax with great scenery.

According to Lightroom it was 35.

Thank you. Good to see a Tri-Elmar 28-35-50 mm picture of an impressive scene, taken at a revealing height. If the lens is coded, LR will know for sure.

Can the M9 detect which focal length was used?  The 6Bit coding would not change.

Love the M9 colours.

That was the First Version of the lens which wasn't coded but Lightroom still picked up the focal length. I love the Tri-Elmar for travel but have had a lot of mechanical problems with them. I bought the first one new in 1999 but after 3 or 4 years it stopped selecting the correct frame lines, I sent it to Leica for repair and after approximately 2 years the same problem occurred. I traded the lens in (telling David Stephens about the problem). I missed the lens and so bought another Version 1, but again after a couple of years the same thing happened and so I sold it. Once again I missed it and after reading that the Version 2 was better mechanically I bought another one last year. So far it's worked great.

This is one of my favoured images taken with the Tr-Elmar.

I've just checked my Lightroom Catalogue and the focal length for the Version 1 lens seems to be correctly recorded even though the lens wasn't coded. (As David mentioned this may only be a "guess".)

I certainly agree with David that the 6 bit coded lens shows the correct distance.

You have recorded very fine detail in this impressive landscape. I bought my version 2, together with my M6 ttl, and later had it factory coded and checked for use on digital cameras. It is a masterpiece of precision mechanical engineering. However, it does reward considerate handling.
