I just received a new Q2 Monochrom today. I spent a few hours setting things up near to what I had on my traded in Q. This evening, I noticed that when I moved the camera, while it was switched off, there was and still is, a bit of a “rattle” sound from the lens especially when lightly shaken.

Later when it was turned on, I noticed  that there is a constant “static” or almost a “whirring” sound coming from the lens body while the camera is on. I never noticed anything like this with my Q. The Q2M functions properly, focusing, taking and recording photos as expected. There just seems to be this unusual sound coming from the lens. When I put my ear to the back of the camera, I can hear the sounds in a muted manner. And to the front of the lens hood they are very noticeable. They are constant.

To those who have recently purchased a new Q2 Monochrom, has anyone had any strange sounds coming from your new Q2 Monochrom?

i have the q2 and i haven't noticed this, but haven't listened for it. but i hear these sort of symptoms being reported by many owners of several brands and models which have ois and your symptoms 'sound' like you might be hearing it working. i have heard both a rattle and a humming sound reported.

next time i have the q2 out i'll listen more closely--i'm old and i ruined my hearing by shooting and living under the #2 catapult on an aircraft carrier for 2 years. :)

been discussed in this forum, but might be buried inside a less obvious title - I am pretty sure that is the IS working its magic when turned on; when off is just the "suspension coils" squeaking a bit.....

I believe the Q does not have IS, but the Q2 models do

Thanks to everyone who replied and thanks to frame-it for the links to related threads.
I wasn’t worried about the noise quite yet. The Q2M has been working as I have expected it to. But it is the first time I’ve come across such sounds when using a camera. My M cameras and lenses have never whirred at me!

The Q2M is a beautiful camera that is capable of stunningly beautiful results, in the right hands. Now to rise to the challenge.

ah-ah...Now I can understand why you were puzzled - not familiar with lens- body stabilization systems. The Q2M is actually pretty quiet compared to some canon ef lenses or my olympus Pen F

My M camera comment was a bit tongue in cheek. I come to Leica via Fujifilm through a used Q purchase some years ago. The Q had stabilization, as I recall, none of my Fujifilm did. The Q maybe rattled on occasion but I don't remember any whirring sounds. So I wanted to check with other Q2M owners about their experience. I'm glad I did. From now, I'll just be whirring on down the street, taking some photos with no worries.

well, you've infected me. i suspect i've owned ois cameras for so many years i've gone 'ear-blind' to the noise. and bear in mind, the q2 is supposed to have all these electronic feedback beeps and blips and blurrts and i can only barely hear the shutter one--none of the others even with my ear an inch away. i can't hear them on my cl either, but i have no such problem with the panasonics.

so i turned on the q2 just now and put my ear to the lens and indeed there is a lower-pitched 'static' sound which is constant. so thanks for that--now i won't be able to unhear it. :) :) :)

But now you don't have to be concerned. You've had your Q2 for some time now and it hasn't blown up or self destructed yet and others have reported the same sounds, so it should be good! And when out shooting, listen to the birdsong instead of the whirring sounds. 😉
