What exactly does the new firmware update do? I cannot find anything from Leica other than "The list of automatically detectable Leica-M lenses was extended."

Since the my camera has no 6-bit coding receptors do I need it? I'm a vintage lens nut so only two of my lenses have coding.

Should I even bother with this if I'm happy with my camera's performance thus far?

I am new to digital Leica so I maybe missing something.

Are you sure that your M-D (typ 262) has no 6bits coding receptors ?

it's on the M mount on mine as on other M-D.

See page 71 of the instruction manual.

Don't know the changes, but as I trust in Leica (most of time), I always do upgrades firmware on my digital Ms.

With the M-D, I had some trouble with "Err" flashing in VF, when I put a fully charged battery in, the update could be done.

I had the update done and saw nothing special, so if you are happy with your M, just don't do the upgrade.

You have 6-bit coding readers - trust me

You are correct. My Leica lenses lack coding, hence my misconception. Thanks for setting me straight.
