Another Reality

Just to share some feelings about this camera.

I got my m8 one day before I left to the High Atlas in the north of Africa so I did not have much time to get used to it (actually I received my first camera two months before that, but it was successfully attacked by the “sudden death syndrome” ). The thing is that I had to learn quite a few things (and forget some others) during this trip. The purpose of this expedition was to climb the M´goun (4.070 m.) and a trekking following the course of one river during eight days in one of the most isolated areas of the Atlas.

I have to say that, with this camera, I found another reality in photography, not a worst or better reality (which I take/ build with my 5d; and to compare these cameras is an absurd issue ) but another quite different one. Now I feel that I have to minds, the one I use with my dlsr and the one I use with de M8. I realize that the pictures I take with this camera are completely different, not only in the subject but in the composition too. My attitude changes when I handle this camera, and I filter what I see with a different perspective and I feel quite more implicated on the results.

It fits well with the feelings I want to have when I take a picture. It makes me go further…

Thank you for reading this so personal post.

It is a great pleasure to belong to this forum.

I agree 100%, which is why I bought an M8 (past long time M6 user) to go with my Canon DSLR kit.

Fuco welcome to the forum and i must say great image but more important is your comment about FEEL. this is the single most important aspect of being a shooter is being one with the camera. It has to fit you and in return free's you to do what you want to do , not be guided by it but support your brain and your vision. Very well said on your part. Look forward to your future here. sometimes we talk a little too much gear ( guilty) and not enough of what makes us tick.

¡Hola Fuco!

That's also my feeling about the M8 and rangefinders in general. I had a M6 for many years and I loved to hold it in my hands and see the world in a different way.

Un abrazo y disfruta de tu M8 ;)

I have this funny idea that makes me think that this is something more than taking pictures... it is more like that I am seeking for my personal way to see the world. Sometimes I have a glance... just a glance.. .but when I get that close, a tiny smile appears in my face and something happens that makes me feel that another piece fits in the puzzle. Maybe the pictures tell more from the shooter than the the image itself. We are what we shoot.

Thanks for all the comments. It is a great wellcome.

So well said! Thanks for putting this into words. So many people who don't own a rangefinder camera just don't get this.

Your picture is really lovely. Welcome to the forum!
