Hi, how are you.

I've had the same problem with my Pentax LX, last April I've decided to try to DIY, as we was all in hour homes, Covid.

I've found a dismantling in the web, and the problem was a clogged mechanism, dry grases.

I've used zippo fluid and isopropil alcohol to dissolve the old grease, and a special watch oil ( Swiss, a little expensive, I don't remember the brand and I'm not at home) to lubricate it after cleaning.

The mechanism starts to works again like new.

I've had a problem, cause cleaning it with isopropilic, a bit has reached the screen, and has damage it, so take care. I was in need to replace it.

If the R3 ( I don't remember) allows you to change screens, take it off before to start.

The procedure was done in one day, seemed crazy to have the body opened, but it was easily doable.

I don't know the R3 inside so I cannot help you with were is and how to reach the mirror system mechanism, but if you fond a way to reach it, go for it.

Patience, organization, a clean surface, and no cats in the room.

Good luck!

The R3 doesn't have interchangeable screens.

Although based on a Minolta body the mirror box for the R3 was designed by Leica to provide a heavily damped and surprisingly quite mirror mechanism - I don't think the R3 has the usual foam strips that other cameras (including later R's) use to help reduce mirror noise and vibration!

The cause is probably similar to that above but you may need to get a repairer to look at it.
