Does the Leicaflex SL2 give a less bright image in the viewfinder than the SL? I also wonder if the image in the SL2 viewfinder has a more greenish tinge. I wonder if anyone has noticed any of these differences.

I see some small differences between the SL and SL2 viewfinders (comparing several SLs and 2 SL2 bodies). No startling differences, brightness about the same on recently-CLA'd samples.

For my cameras (just one SL and one SL2) I can't see any difference strong enough to be visible for my old eyes. I prefer the SL2, because the split-image in the middle is easier to use for someone who normally does his pics with M6 or IIIf (or Bessa-T....), just more functional.

I know people who have used the early (first) Leicaflexes and were disappointed about the Finder of SL and SL2. Don't know it they are richt.

Regards from Cologne, Germany (and excuse my English)

'Does the Leicaflex SL2 give a less bright image in the viewfinder than the SL? '

The SL2 has a more 'polarised' image screen. In dark the SL is even more bright!

With strong daylight of the sun the SL2 gives a very clear image without strong 'white light' colour.

The actual reflex cameras (R 4-R7) have a rather 'white color' character in the viewfinder, but are in dark very light and clear!

For concert and theatre photos I do prefer the RE camera with 'Vollmatscheibe' and the Elmarit-R 2,8/180.

For macro photography I prefer the SL2 and the macro Elmarit 2,8/60 for its exceptional accurate focusing by means of its 'Mikroprismen' screen!

I'm a newbie to these old Leica reflex cameras. Are there any other focusing screens available for the SL2? I've only seen the split image RF style one and the microprism screen.

The 'standard' focusing screen of the SL2 in the most beautiful!

But the placing of a 'Vollmat' screen is possible!

Thanks for all these observations! Very useful. I compared an SL with an SL2, and found the differences I mentioned, but it sounds as though they are not systematic, maybe just a feature of the two cameras I looked at.

'Are there any other focussing screens available for the SL2?' The screens are not interchangeable but it is possible to put an SL screen (microprisms only) into an SL2, I believe. But it's not such a trivial matter to do it.

The screens are not user interchangeable, but they can be changed by those who know what they are doing. I had a SL2 screen put into a SL during a CLA, and like the way it works. On the otherhand, I like the SL screen for macro work.

The SL and SL2 can use the SL's microprism screen, the SL2's microprism-plus-split-image screen, or the plain matte screen normally installed in the SL MOT or SL2 MOT.
