crf59 Posted January 3, 2021 Share #1 Â Posted January 3, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi folks, I just bought a Zeiss 21mm f/4.5 (not the 2.8) for travel because it's tiny and pretty good. I am trying to determine if there is a way to 6-bit code this lens. I know flanges are available for many Zeiss ZM lenses, but have not seen one for this one. Anyone have any idea if one is available or if there is someone who can machine the flange? Thanks, Chuck
Advertisement Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Hi crf59, Take a look here Zeiss ZM 21mm f/4.5 6-bit coding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ocean2059 Posted January 4, 2021 Share #2 Â Posted January 4, 2021 I used mine uncoded on M9M and it works fine. I don't think the lens is usable on color sensor M bodies. It will have a very strong color cast on the edge of the image. No coding will help, I am afraid. Â Â
jkcampbell2 Posted January 4, 2021 Share #3  Posted January 4, 2021 I have the 21mm ZM Biogon too and it's my most used lens, small and super sharp. That said, I only use it for B&W. On my old M9 and new M10 I get pretty significant red vignetting in the color file. This can be corrected using Adobe's Flat Field for Lightroom or an app called Corner Fix but it's a bit of post processing work. But for B&W its a superb lens! Wow, thats disappointing from a 1000$+ Zeiss Lens. I guess that it is a problem of the lens and will be the same on other - also non Leica - cameras, or are i'm wrong? It is an issue with light ray angles because of the (generally necessary) design of digital M cameras. It is not an issue with film M cameras, for example, even color ones. The effects have been mitigated with each generation on digital, though.
