I think the 75mm is one of the most underrated and one of the least popular focal lengths when compared to the 28/35/50.

Life is too short, get the 75 Noctilux.

Thank you. I don’t think I need a 1.25 haha

I love my ‘lux 75 for portraits, never had a Problem with this focal length I like almost as much as 50

I added the cron 75 for versatilty and ease of use with a lighter combo... we’ll see...

First shot :)

I love the handling of the Lens, small (compared to the .95 Noct 50 or the ‘lux 75) and the same great feeling (buttery smooth focusing and aperture ring, though with precise clicks) as my 90 APO silver.

My APO Summicron-M 75mm is my favorite medium telephoto for travel. It's relatively small and light compared to my APO Summicron-M 90mm. It works well on my M10 and M10-R.

Here are a few shots taken with my M10 and the 75mm. Post processing done in Capture One Pro 21. These are tightly cropped to "zoom" but the quality is excellent.

Bud James

So a quick question... My Summarit 75/2.5 which I purchased used has a front focus shift at *close* distances... At closest distance it focuses about one centimeter (slightly less than half an inch or so) in front of the subject towards infinity. The further the subject, the smaller  this focus error gets and eventually completely disappears after 10 meters/33 feet, the lens is spot on after that. Is this normal? Odd? Needs servicing?......
Also, the serial number is NOT shown in EXIF and the f/stop shows f/16 when in fact I only use it wide open all the time. Any advice?...

My identical lens focusses absolutely spot-on at all distances. Unbelievably sharp. I also find it strange that it takes 10 metres for your lens to 'absorb' something so slight as a 1cm shift so I suspect something is out of whack.

Are you absolutely certain your body is properly calibrated? This might sound a strange thing to ask but after I bought both my 75mm and 90mm Summarits and experienced slight but noticeable 'focussing problems' with both lenses I discovered that it was the cam on the body which needed an incredibly small adjustment. I hadn't noticed any problem before because with shorter lenses there was never a problem; it was only when the longer lenses were used that the issue came to light.

Just a thought!

Philip.

I’m not sure how a lens serial number could get into the EXIF data. The 6bit coding only identifies the lens.

I always operated under the belief (I think Don Goldberg told me) that a mis-calibrated lens (Shimming) will show up worse the further out you get, as will a mis-calibrated rangefinder, as evidenced by the graduated distance scale on the lens. I'm wondering how you can see a 1 centimeter front focus at 33' though. Pretty tough, even with an electronic viewfinder and magnification, at least on Leica M.

It came from Leica in Germany recalibrated, with new shutter and new 6-bit reader. I am open to anything, could of course be the body as well. My 50/2 and 35/1.4 are spot on though.

Your body might well be spot-on, Al; it really was just a thought and one possible cause of the problem regardless of how unlikely it might have sounded.

The reason I mentioned the possibility was because in my case the issue concerned not one but two bodies and they both should, in theory, have been perfect. One was a 'mint in box' ex-demo body and the other had not long arrived in the UK from the last days of the Factory re-furbished 'M9 A La Carte' sales program and was, to all intents and purposes, practically unused. Both bodies had sub 150 shutter actuations when I acquired them yet, as I say, both r/f cams were out by a tiny fraction.

As I mentioned earlier I hadn't been aware of any issue when using any of my '50mm and under' lenses. After my own calibration all my lenses now work as they should on both bodies.

Philip.

About 50% of my new Leicas have been off. I've gotten very proficient at rangefinder adjusting lately! Although, contrary to what I see expressed in these forums, mine have been very reliable once set up properly.

It is this that makes me nervous about buying used.

I know that I could always return it if purchased from a reliable on-line store but that is a pain.
