nar53 Posted December 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Newbie here so be kind I'm looking to purchase my first Leica M. If funds were no problem I would just go buy an Monochrom but that can't be done at the moment. So I'm thinking M8, M9 + variants or maybe push it for the ME but as I'm only interested in B&W I believe the lack of AAF helps with the 8&9. Is this the case with the ME? Cheers.... OK Sorry, I think I've found the answer to this. As best as I can tell the ME has NO AAF which is good as it's a cheaper option than the M9. Advertisement Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Hi nar53, Take a look here Does the Leica ME Have the Anti-aliasing filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 28, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 28, 2020 It is the same sensor... In fact, it is virtually the same camera as the M9. Make sure that you get one with the corrosion-proof sensor upgrade.
Ray Vonn Posted December 29, 2020 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2020 Yes that’s right, it doesn’t. It’ll still do some wonderful monos though FWIW.
Marac Posted December 30, 2020 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2020 If you are only going to use it as a Monochrome then I would suggest the M8, it has, apparently, earned itself the label 'Poor man's Monochrome'. Personally I really like the M8 as it can also be used for Infrared photos. IMHO The M8 is the next best thing to a Monochrome and a lot cheaper than the M9 variants, as well as no sensor coating issue.
