IMG_9445.HEIC

Hi All,

I've only now set the SL2 up with the Ronin S2, per picture attached.  Looks to balance well with for example 35mm fixed or the 24-90.

The DJI suggests that none of the Leica cameras are compatible with the S2 link-up (https://www.dji.com/support/compatibility) yet (dropped a request on that site to DJI to add -- so if any of you are thinking about this, please also link a request, see pic below)

The Panasonic cameras are listed, but not sure any of that functionality carries over on the L alliance.

The camera attached, but I have not yet gotten it to do the simple video start/video end.  If you add the USB cable, the SL2 will start to charge from the Ronin, but there is not enough power.  I therefore disabled USB charging on the SL2.

Any further suggestions with getting this set-up to work?

How does the RS2 handle the weight of an SL2 or SL2-s (I assume they weigh about the same)?  I guess your picture shows an SL-Summicron prime.  Will it handle the  SL-Summilux or the 24-90 zoom?  The wide angle zoom?  All of these are heavier.  I'm starting to work with a discounted RSC unit (a bargain since the RS2's came out), and will stick with using the lighter 24 from Sigma if necessary.

I was able to use the ronin S with SL2 and 24-90 in vertical and horizontal video mode with this counter weights. It balanced perfect even with the Ronin off. the controls are not active for Leica

I can confirm the RS 2 balances well with a SL2-S and the 24-90 lens. It feels very stable and controllable.

But I can also confirm that no camera functions can be controlled from the RS2, which is a shame, because I would expect pro gear to support pro gear. So if Leica really wants the video market for the SL2-S, they should open up their USB port for controlling at least basic camera functions like record start/stop, focus and zoom. And the closer they implement to already established standards, the better. Their lenses and sensors are best of all, but their compatibility with other stuff always was bad. Hope this changes very soon...

Yes, I did also try the 24-90, and this looks fine.  A further test would be the 90-280, but not clear what use case would be there.

It is indeed a shame that the SL2/SL2S does not apparently allow for external controls, but will try to figure out some workarounds for now.  But any tips welcome!

I had a conversation with Leica last week. I was told that they are working with dji onthe topic to link the Leica sl series with Dji rs2. I assume it will take some time.

Can confirm that the balance of sl2-s + 24-90 is good and works well.

has anyone tested this DJI firmware update with the SL2?

https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/DJI_RS_2/20210706/DJI_RS_2_Release_Notes_en1.pdf

"Added photo capture, video recording, camera settings, and autofocus for Leica SL2 and SL2-S cameras with supported L mount lenses using the Multi-Camera Control Cable (USB-C). To use autofocus on the Leica SL2 and SL2-S, press halfway down on the camera control button of the gimbal."

I am using the SL2-S with DJI RS2 Pro and can confirm that it is working pretty well. You can even start/stop recording and focus some lenses with gimbal control wheel. I tried focusing the Leica 24-70mm f2.8 Vario-Elmarit-SL Asph Lens and that is working fine, but focusing does not work with Panasonic S and Sigma lenses (at least when I was testing). Overall really good combo. But what is really weird I can use HDMI monitor or let gimbal operate camera (focusing, start/stop recording). I cannot use both at the same time. What you plug in first that will work. So if you plug HDMI monitor fist and then USB-C for gimbal control only the HDMI monitor will work and vice-versa. I don’t understand why.

Good afternoon all,

I would also like to know if both are compatible, even though Leica is not listed on the DJI's website.

Thank you, Steve

Leica is listed on the Website for the RSC2 and the and RS2, but the Raven Eye and other Function which in my eyes are important, like focus , monitoring ect is not available yet. Since Leica is in contact with DJI  and I hope they don't need too long to develop more options for Leica Users.

Old thread however I thought I would post what I’m seeing with a RS2 and SL2S, both with current firmware as of August 2022.

Raveneye with active track is working great!  The record button on the gimbal does not work but it does trigger autofocus like a half press shutter press. Still no ISO, shutter, aperture control from the RS2 with bluetooth or with Raveneye connected.

It’s nice having active track for some shots, I hope Leica/DJI can add in some the basic controls from the gimbal that are badly needed.

I use the SL2 with DJI Ronin RSC 2  and Focus motor. The HDMI output is sent to a Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR 7''. Thus USB control of the Camera is out of function, but I start the recording at the Video Assist. It works fine.

The only problem I had was with the focus motor. The fixing of the motor was nont strong enough so that it lost contact to the focus ring of the lens. The problem was easily solved by a tiny piece of  adhesive tape between the small aluminum tube and the fixing clamp. Funny.
