tommonego@gmail.com Posted December 21, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 1957 M3 that I inherited from a friend who past. Was nonfunctional when I received it. YYE worked on it and it has been working well until a couple of months ago when I started to see shutter slap on the side of negatives. Youxin said it was the shutter brakes and they were very worn on the the camera. Being originally a 2 stroke the brakes are built in the chassis of the camera, he said it should be OK just minimize using 1/500 or 1/1000. He also said M3 camera chassis are hard and expensive to come by. Just trying to get this sorted out. Is it a death report for the camera? Has anyone had a similar issue? Picture sideways to show the shutter slap, it progressed as the film advanced, this is near the end of the roll. Welcome, dear visitor! 105012 Posted December 21, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 21, 2020 The brakes are adjustable, however if that is not effective anymore then I would turn to a specialist (DAG, Kanto) for advice.
Guest JMF Posted January 8, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 8, 2021 I had a similar issue with a 1954 DS M3 and my local repairman fixed it.
tommonego@gmail.com Posted January 10, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted January 10, 2021 Youxin Yee has it back working fine but he said to be aware of this because the shutter brakes are very warn. Trying not to use 1/500 and 1/1000 but that is tough outside with ISO 400 film. He said what I have to find is a SS M3 body that has had other damage. The brakes on a DS M3 arepart of the camera chassis.
Raid Amin Posted January 10, 2021 Share #5 Posted January 10, 2021 My M3 is SS. So far I have not seen any issues with my camera. I hope that your M3 is still doing fine.
Axelwik Posted January 11, 2021 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2021 Mine was originally a DS, but later converted to SS. I haven't seen the problem yet despite the camera being well-used.
