I am looking for a leather full case for my D-Lux 7 and I have found luigicases.com in Italy offering the exact same case for both the Typ 109 and the D-LUX 7. According to  specifications, the Typ 109 is 9mm thinner. That’s almost a full one centimeter. But looking at picture comparisons, the body and lens thicknesses of both camera look totally similar. Only the visor looks thinner on the Typ 109, but the difference can’t be 9mm.

So what is the real thickness of the Typ 109?

And has anyone bought the full case from Luidgy in Italy and would be kind enough to show me a side picture of the case, visor side?

Thank you for any help!

Not much interest in this topic... I guess!

Hi Yhaha !!

Firstly, welcome to the forum and forgive the absence of answers - sometimes answers can take time to come, or be down to the possibility that few have the specific experience of the Luigi case that you need.

The best suggestion that I can offer is check with Luigi himself, who is very helpful and will be able to confirm the fit for both cameras.

Despite this slow start, the forum is a very helpful and generally informative place, so don't be discouraged by the lack of response on this particular occasion.

The thing I would recommend (once you've got your case sorted out) would be to shoot some pictures with this excellent and underrated camera and post them on your own account or in some of the forum threads, which can be very rewarding as well as informative - there is a thread specifically for D-Lux 7 images started by Brent Nicastro (fotografr) and some excellent rolling threads such as 'Post and Image Relating to the Previous One' and 'Barnack's Monthly' (current subject 'something shiny').

I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience and find this a good, friendly environment to engage in photography.

I can't comment directly on difference in size between the v1 vs v2 of this camera.

However, on my typ 109, it is ~ 55 mm from front of lens to the rear or the camera body, and ~ 64 mm from the front of the lens to the rear of the EVF.

Side by side the two cameras appear to be the same, and if they differ, then they are stil close enough that they use the same Leica accessory handgrip.

Thank you Robert and Adhox for your follow up!

I have checked with Luigi, who said that with time it "will fit it very well, loosing a little the upper rear leather’s strip". But I can't see how a gap of almost 1cm could fit in the same case, even with time passing.

As the first picture show, my D-LUX 7 is 64 mm thick, altogether, 55 mm without the EFV.

That look exactly as your typ 109, Adhox !!!

Could the Leica specification of typ 109 and typ 7 be measured differently ?

Hi Yhaha

The tech specs do differ by the amount you say but I think it is obvious that they have measured to different places on the camera; D-Lux Typ 109 is measured to the back of the camera casing / body and D Lux 7 to the back of the viewfinder.

I would rely on AdHox's and your own real world measurements, which confirm that the cameras are almost identical in size.

You should now be in a good position to make a decision on what case you buy - when you've sorted that out, do consider posting some photographs on the forum - I think you would enjoy it.

Thank you Robert,

I also think so. And I have contacted Luidgi. I still hesitate between a black and a brown full case. I feel that if the half case does not fit like a glove, it will be less visible with a black case!

I will definitely post pictures with the case once I get it.

I am surprise no-one already did!
