Hello.

Wasnt sure where to put this. I was thinking of some interesting ways to create final prints, and wondered what it would be like to screen print photos. I wondered if anyone had tried? You could do a single colour half tone, or even do multiple colours.

About ten years ago I attended some art classes on screen printing and made some from my black and white negatives.

The studio had a vacuum light box that could be used to make a “negative” that attached over the silk screen, which you then used in the regular way to squeeze the ink through the mesh. I only used one colour, but I guess you could make multiple colour images in the same way that you can with any other screen print.

To make the negative I scanned a darkroom print( or negative) and made a digital print onto an A4 clear acetate, that you can buy where you buy everyday digital printing paper.

My acetate went in the light box to make the “negative” that went onto the screen printing frame. I was limited to A4 by the size of the acetate sheet.

I cannot remember what the material was to make the “negative” but it was developed in hydrogen peroxide hair bleach and could be handled in subdued room light.

I guess the details can be googled.

This is a poor quality picture of a successful print hanging up at home.

My reply was about “silk screen” printing with oil based printers ink. I had not even imagined it had anything to do with computer screens.

Thanks for sharing this video. My concern as he mentioned at the end is the resolution which can be achieved from the smartphone screen. I rather would prefer to go the digital negative route as alternative to this process. More calibration work to adjust photosensitive paper/inkjet print first, but after this is done I can print from a 4x5" digital negative in any size with excellent resolution.

This makes sense. Would be very interesting to see such prints. 

I like the analogue workflow, especially after working many hours in front of a computer.

Please share if you decide to give this a try.
