Sandokan Posted December 19, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Looking for some guidance. When I ordered my M10 Monochrom, as I knew I needed more than the single battery that came with it, I decided to buy some extra batteries. I guess sometime between Dec 2019 and Easter 2020, I bought 2 second hand M10 batteries. It wasnt an online transaction as that would appear in my emails. When the M10M finally arrived - neither of those batteries works but the one with the camera does work. These batteries sit in the charger as if charging but after many hours, all the charger lights flash. I cannot remember where I bought them - could have been somewhere in Asia or near home. Has anyone heard of batteries simply not working, or are there fake Leica batteries for the M10?

Jeff S Posted December 19, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 19, 2020 I’m in the camp of sticking with Leica issued batteries for all my Leica cameras. Apparently the M is particularly sensitive in this regard, even for those who use third party batteries with other Leica cameras. Jeff
Ken Abrahams Posted December 19, 2020 Share #3 Posted December 19, 2020 If all the lights on the charger are flashing that is not a good sign for the battery. You could try cleaning the battery contacts but usually when orange and green battery indicator lights flashing at the same time, means the battery is faulty/not accepting charge and kaput.

Herr Barnack Posted December 25, 2020 Share #5 Posted December 25, 2020 (edited) @Sandokan - sending them to Leica is probably your best course of action. I do not know what the warranty on new batteries is, but Leica should have some sort of warranty on them. If you do not have a receipt for them, that may be a problem - but if you explain the circumstances, perhaps Leica will cut you some slack on the receipt. It is possible that there was a small run of defective batteries, which would explain how you ended up with two of them. The dealer you bought them from may have just placed their order at the wrong time, causing them to get some of the defective batch. Good luck getting this resolved, and keep us posted on how it turns out. Edit: Here is a link to the M10 Monochrom battery - this one looks like your two defective batts, so yours are presumably not a counterfeits: https://www.popflash.com/24003 USA warranty is one year, which I would think would also hold true if you bout your batts from a dealer in Europe or Asia. Ammar577 Posted February 10, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2021 Hi, did you manage to solve your issue, I have the same problem, I have recently purchased a Leica M10R and M10M the new batteries that came with the cameras are not working. I have older batteries which I used with my M10P they work fine with the new cameras.
Sandokan Posted March 27, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted March 27, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Update: Leica wrote back to me to say the batteries are OK but as they are from 2017, they are not at 100% which is normal for batteries of that age. They do not have enough power for the M10M, so I asked Leica to recycle them and not bother sending back. Who knew that we can only expect 4 years lifespan from our batteries? I’ve noticed that 3-4 years is about the time when my M batteries do not hold a charge in-camera as well as when new. I never knew if that was due to poor charge recycling habits on my part, or just the aging of the batteries. Maybe both, but apparently the latter to a greater degree. I always buy new batteries for new bodies, though, so I never thought about a newer generation M requiring so much more power that the older battery wouldn’t function.
