M10 rangefinder or focusing not working randomly (Help!)

Strangely enough, my M10-P has just started doing this intermittently.  For some reason yesterday morning I changed the lens on the camera and the RF coupling would not move…. Tried pushing it in and out and it squeaks really badly, swapped lens again, but still no joy.

I used the camera with the EVF without issue and when I got home later in the day, tried the RF again and it worked as smooth as anything!  I’m wondering if being sat in a warm car for quite a time, made the lubrication a little more thin.

I’ve looked at a couple of videos which make it look a pretty simple fix - just weighing up the option of a DIY try or talking to Camera Works to see how long it will take to get sorted.

When inspecting the roller cam in the M10-P body, where should it be resting: in the in or out position? by out, I mean, the roller is near the outer edge of the lens opening.

I don't want it to be in the wrong position when I put on the lens.

I still don’t know what position is the wrong one.

When you remove a lens the roller will be in the outermost position.

It has spring tension to keep the roller up against the back of the lens and will default to the fully out position when the lens is removed, which is also the closest the rangefinder can focus (approx 0.7m).  When a lens is fitted and focused to infinity, the roller is then pushed in by the cam on the back of the lens to the innermost position.

It can’t be in the “wrong” position when you’re changing lenses.

Hi, new here and I've come across the discussion whilst looking for answers to the issue. I've only just received an M10 and instantly found that there is a problem with the stuck roller arm - very disappointing... Question is, because the dealer is of course going to fix it and they claim it is a relatively common issue, am I to expect the problem to return? My camera has 6 months warranty on it and I'm considering just returning it rather than having it fixed only to then surprise me in the future. Thoughts? Experiences with this issue re-occurring?

It is certainly not a common issue. When it occurs it is usually by a lens being mounted incorrectly and hitting the roller unluckily. Returning it for this issue is not warranted as it is a minor mechanical problem and easily fixed.

lens being mounted incorrectly

I learnt from @jaapv 's advice (thanks) that you are best mounting a lens set at closest focus as this gives best clearance to the roller cam on attachment.
