Jeru Posted December 9, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) After months of watching reviews on YT and reading online, my mind is set on buying a Leica. My budget is max. $500. Which buys me a D Lux 4,5,6 or typ 109 or a X1 or (if I am lucky) a X2. I really would like a small(ish) camera. For my job I use a Canon DSLR, so the Leica is the one I would like to carry around with me. Don't care for video. Don't care for wifi and other new stuff. Don't need to print billboardsizes. I just want a simple well built camera with an analogue feel. I don't want a pocket sized computer that takes pictures. From what I understand the image quality for the D Lux 4-6 is basically the same, is this true? Does the D lux 4 for example still hold up today? I know the D Lux line is internally the same as the Panasonic ones, but with better jpeg output and colour rendering. Is de X series more analogue in use? I would really appreciate some feedback and advice...
Advertisement Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Hi Jeru, Take a look here Your advice: is a 10 year old digital Leica still worth buying in 2020?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 9, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 9, 2020 Get an X2 and enjoy.... AF is a bit slow, but for the rest it holds its own against modern cameras.
wda Posted December 9, 2020 Share #3 Posted December 9, 2020 A hot contender would be the D Lux Typ. 109 if your budget would reach. More versatile. More modern. Greater chance of spares, if ever needed. Excellent performer.
Jeru Posted December 9, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted December 9, 2020 Thanks! I am leaning towards de 109 indeed. I almost never shoot RAW, and I read the X2 has issues with in camera jpeg conversion?
