My father was with the Loyal  north Lancashire Rgt. in Flanders about 1917 - have you ever had the chance to go to Ypres, the museum there is well worth visiting.

And me old dad always called it 'Wypers'

I have not, Tony.  Someday I hope to see many war memorials.  I believe it good to visit such places and be reminded how so many answered a rally call to serve.  I like to think we would lay aside partisanship and unite once again, but I'm not so sure.

So did I for many years.

My great Uncle L/Cpl William Fairbairn (8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars) was killed at the 2nd Battle of Ypres, 13 June 1915.  His body rests in the Perth, China Wall Cemetery. I have yet to visit, but some of my cousins have been over.
