wlaidlaw Posted March 4, 2021 Author Share #21  Posted March 4, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the high R prices for the fast zooms and Summilux lenses are being driven by Videographers rather than collectors. Collectors have always looked down their noses at the R cameras, as being tarted up Minoltas. Even the "proper" Leica reflexes, the Leicaflex series plus the R8 and 9, have never commanded high prices used. Last year I bought as a spare for my "well loved" R9, a basically unused R8, all boxed and papered, with a motor-winder R8 for just £399. That is less than a sixth of what you would have to pay for an M6 with Motor-M in similar condition. Wilson

The better R-lenses -like this one, deserve to keep their value for as long as their robust constructions allow., but if a lower price will allow users rather than collectors to enjoy them, so much the better. p. Are you sure your 21-35 does not need a clean? If they have ever been left sitting in the sun, lubricant from the zooming sleeves can evaporate and condense again on the cooler air glass surfaces. This is really only detectable with UV light.  I have not noticed any significant flare with my 21-35. Zeiss lenses do have a reputation for extreme flare resistance but sadly no way to mount them on an R with their 45.5mm FFL being shorter than the R at 47mm. I would love to be able to use my 28-85 f3.3 vario-sonnar on my R cameras. I do use it on live view M cameras with a Novoflex LEM-Cont adapter. As I have the 24-90 L mount Leica lens, there is no point using it on my SL. Wilson
ph. Posted March 6, 2021 Share #23 Â Posted March 6, 2021 no haze on my 21-35,but if not using film, I use it on a Nikon Z7 and digital, high Mp sensors tend to reveal such phenomena in the small details. I find that I prefer the Zeiss to Nikons native equivalent since I do not like the uncertainty of autofocus. p. Â

ramarren Posted March 7, 2021 Share #25  Posted March 7, 2021 I got lucky in the 2011-2013 time frame and picked up a dozen or more R lenses at remarkably affordable prices. I used most of them a good bit on various cameras including the SL, sold the ones I didn't use much when I sold the SL—all at a fair profit based on current market value.  What I use now are the 28/2.8, 50/2, 50/1.4, 60/2.8 macro, 90/2, 100/4 macro, 135/2.8, and 180/4. What I have that I don't use are the Super-Elmar-R 15mm f/3.5 and Elmarit-R 19mm f/2.8 v1 .. if anyone is interested in them and wants to offer a fair price, send me a msg. Both are three cam models, the 19 has original box, caps, hood, the 15 has caps and a non-original box. Both great condition and make beautiful photos, I just have other lenses that I've replaced them with.  G
