Malabito Posted November 17, 2020 Share #1  Posted November 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently got a 28mm summicron v1, love the lens! not happy about the hood, (feels cheap and big), but the lens is amazing, sharp and still has this paint look, kind of reminds of my ex 35mm pre asph v2 summilux, but been sharp wide open. Some images taken with a m10 and the lens: Welcome, dear visitor! Jeff S Posted November 17, 2020 Share #3  Posted November 17, 2020 Replace the hood (various discussions). I use the one initially designed for the older 35 Summilux ASPH, #12589. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/89432-REG/Leica_12589_Lens_Hood_for_35mm.html  Jeff

Yes I read all of the posts here in the group... will probably end getting the one you are linking above. I tried some sold locally here, all chinese, and all vignetted. Will start searching in ebay in case a good deal appears for the leica one.

Jeff S Posted November 17, 2020 Share #6  Posted November 17, 2020 The second version has a modern screw-in hood, and some supposed optical enhancements, but I see no reason to upgrade.  IQ is plenty good enough with v.1 for my shooting (M10/M Monochrom) and printing. Ccoppola82 Posted November 19, 2020 Share #9  Posted November 19, 2020 I use this lens with the 12588 hood but tbh I haven’t had any flare issues without, so generally I just have a BW clear filter on it and go hoodless.  Then again where I live is generally overcast, but I’ve been happy with flare resistance

And they do have a painterly look to them. Might I ask how much and what all you did in post to these?  Just trying to figure how much was lens and sensor, vs some post production tweaks. I'm looking to 28mm next myself and wanting to get my first Leica branded lens. I've been looking at the Elmarit 28mm...but these look pretty amazing too. Just FYI, my camera is the M10M, so no color for me....but that lens does look like it puts out some cool images....hmm, maybe I can rent them both one weekend and shoot side by side.  Thanks in advance, cayenne
kretsche Posted November 19, 2020 Share #11  Posted November 19, 2020 vor 7 Minuten schrieb Steven: They do look amazing indeed. I'm more and more into the 28mm focal length and I'm considering one too. I am in a dilemma between the Cron and the Lux. Assuming for a second that price is not a factor, the advantage of the Cron is obviously the small size. The advantage of the Lux, to me, is not so much the extra stop of light, but rather the extra DOF as it means it would be a real contender for travel portraits. And portraits in general... The 28 Lux is something very special. If the price is right, I would buy it for you! A very nice look, especially for portraits. melanger Posted November 20, 2020 Share #12 Â Posted November 20, 2020 I have no experience with the 28mm Summilux. Â But the 28mm Summicron v1 is a fabulous lens, particularly for close-up subjects. Â Unless you're shooting within 90 degrees of the sun, you'll probably be okay without the hood. Enjoy.
