martano Posted August 21, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted August 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to know what kind of Film mode you set when shooting on D3/L1? Color or B&W. I'm having good shoots with dynamic mode but in some cases a little bit dark. I'm glad to hear some comments.

Bo_Lorentzen Posted August 21, 2007 Share #2  Posted August 21, 2007 Per the suggestion of several people in this forum I'm using the My Film mode set to  Contrast -2 Sharpness +2 Saturation +1 Noise Reduction -2  This seems to create agreeable images.   Bo  My Leica scratch page - random thoughts , pictures and such. leonpro Posted August 21, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted August 21, 2007 These "modes" don't carry over to RAW files, right?
dugby Posted August 21, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted August 21, 2007 I'm finding that the AUTO whitebalance is not as good as selecting a manual WB setting. Â Anyone else notice this on the D3 and L1...images?
spylaw4 Posted August 21, 2007 Share #5  Posted August 21, 2007 I'm finding that the AUTO whitebalance is not as good as selecting a manual WB setting. Anyone else notice this on the D3 and L1...images?  I find that in general with the V2 firmware, Auto WB is fine. I rarely have to re-balance the RAW file, unless I'm shooting with a peculiar combination of lighting.
cluso Posted August 21, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted August 21, 2007 Hi there, I've had a bit of a play with these settings as well. With the L1 the colours a quite strong. For normal photographs I set the saturation to -1 or -2 and sharpness to +1. At high ISO (800, 1600) I use sharpness -1 or even the minimum to reduce the noise. Â The dynamic modes give good results when appropriate, but as a standard setting they are quite full on I think. To me it feels like they do more than just adjusting the saturation etc., it's a completely different interpretation of the colours. The B/W modes are really good as well. I often use them instead of converting the raw data to black and white. Â leonpro: The RAW data cannot be affected by these settings. Â The automatic white balance works perfect in normal conditions. When there are different light sources at the same time I find I sometimes have to use the manual setting. Â The setting you choose also depend to some extend on the lens you use. For example, with the 60mm Leica R lens, the photographs turn out quite a bit sharper than with the 14-50mm zoom lens, and also the colours are a bit different (in a positive way). For the R lens I would use less sharpening than for the zoom.
