I understand the AF function won’t work on the SL, but will the aperture control work?

The MC-21 doesn't work at all on the SL601. You get blocked by a message telling you something about a FW update. The only adapter that works on the SL is the Novoflex.

The only way to make the MC-21 work on the SL601 is to place tape over the electrical contacts & then you'll have full manual control. If the lens has an aperture ring you'll have aperture control, if no aperture ring then the lens will operate wide open.

The MC-21 works well on the SL2.

Thank you.  It makes me wonder if there might be other, lower cost options if accepting full manual as the only way to go.

There are cheap manual L-mount adapters available on e*ay etc. Remember that fully electronic lenses will have one fixed aperture. Default aperture is wide open, but you can preset any aperture on another body with aperture control (say, f8), by releasing the lens while keeping the preview (or depth of field) button pressed. In the latter case the aperture will be f8 on SL. Not very elegant and/or flexible, but possible...

As Helge says there are cheaper alternative adapters that will give you full manual control.

Haoge Manual Lens Mount Adapter for Canon EOS EF EFS Lens to Leica L Mount

I have a couple of these Haoge adapters for various lens mounts to L mount. They're well made & fit well.

Does your lens have an aperture ring?

Thank you. This is how I have approach using some of my old Pentax glass. I find it usually works well. The half-press shutter gives a nice preview of the exposure in the EVF.

Cheers

Thank you. I will look at the Haoge units.   The 2 I am wanting to try the most do not have aperture rings; 300/2.8 and a 70-200 f/4 (highly under rated bit of cheap glass from Canon)
