If you scroll down the article you find the designs of the 135mm Sonnar and the Tele-Elmar in immediate comparison. The Tele-Elmar had a split and cemented front lens, but in principal it followed the Sonnar‘s design. Both have the very large lens in second last position.
The Ernostar was the model for the 50mm Sonnar, which was a very different design. Looking again at the design for the 85mm Sonnar I find it follows the model of the 50mm Sonnar  - not the Planar as has been said.

Though all original Sonnars were designed by Ludwig Bertele for the Zeiss Ikon Contax. The 135mm design was the most persistant as it lived on in many later Zeiss lenses and other brands - one of them being the Tele-Elmar.

The Sonnar really was a tiny lens.

While the title was Elmar-M f4 the picture on the bid was definitely a Tele-Elmar f4 but if that was the lens sold I have no idea, I would be happy with either. The price was crazy low. Came in today definitely a Tele-Elmar.

M8 135 Tele-Elmar, one of the first for me

I'd add that the 135 TE f/4.0 was the "killer app" that made me buy an M10.

Upgraded viewfinder to provide the required focusing precision, plus clean ISO 10000 to turn f/4.0 into a "night-vision" aperture.

So going over the lens, looks to be in used but decent shape, two problems, the focus ring seems a little loose, infinity focus seems short. Both the M8 and my CL have infinity at under 100 yds. So I am thinking of a CLA for the lens, it can join my M3 and 35 at YYE. Interior which was described as dusty seems OK.

From a foggy morning, my neighbors back yard.

It is the case that the 135 TE (especially one dating from 1966) can develop creaks and wobbles.** The focus ring is at least partly held in position with radial set-screws that can loosen up. And as you may not yet have discovered, the entire optical head (the glass, and the metal tube it is in) can be unscrewed from the front for use on the old pseudo-SLR "Visoflex" devices.

I also note your lens tube is not perfectly aligned rotationally (the DoF indicators are skewed towards the viewfinder, rather than centered).

To save weight, the 135 TE focus cam is way up inside the lens, and connects to the camera/rangefinder via a narrow spring-loaded push-rod, with a chamfered tip - \__/. (Look in the back of the lens, top center).

Any misalignment in left-to-right mounting of the lens may mean that that tip is focusing on the sloped edges, rather than the calibrated flat center.

In any event, a well-done CLA should fix everything.

** however, nothing like the well-abused, wobbly Nikkor-Q.C 200mm I borrowed in college in the 1970s - the world's first and only "tilt-shift" 200mm. ;)
