GLOBETROTTER Posted October 17, 2020 Share #1 Â Posted October 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone. I'm using Zeiss lenses for Canon and Canon 50mm EF F1.0 with sigma MC 21 adapter on my SL2. Everything is updated to the latest firmware but I always experience the same problem. I always work at full aperture but the adapter always closes the lens diaphragm, no matter what speed I set and even if I underexpose the scene, it automatically closes the diaphragm about f8 which makes it impossible to achieve a precise focus. When the shot is taken then if the diaphragm is opened to the selected value. This happens in manual mode, opening, speed etc etc Has anyone had a similar experience? Why doesn't the camera keep the selected aperture value? Thank you.

jankap Posted October 17, 2020 Share #3 Â Posted October 17, 2020 I use Canon EF (50mm and 24mm) on my Sony APS. The adapters are from Metabones: the lens booster one and the one without optics. Both work perfect, even the correct data are set. How are the exif data set in your case?

The Exif data are correct, even the focus is accuracy for the old F1.0 Canon EF lens, but the aperture descontrol is a mess, i use all time manual focus but if the lens close to F8 the focus peaking is useless. I don't know how to solve the problem or from where is coming from. Thanks !!!! Let see if another member of this forum has and solve this issue.
BernardC Posted October 17, 2020 Share #5 Â Posted October 17, 2020 That lens was introduced in 1989, so it probably uses an older/obsolete version of the EOS communication protocol. I doubt that the Sigma adapter will support it, Sigma officially only supports their own (latest-generation) EOS lenses. You can try contacting them.

Thanks a lot for your reply !!! for sure is a communication problem because the canon EF 50 F1.0 is a very old lens but i have the same problem using Zeiss ZE lenses and a Canon EF 40 F2.8 I will try to contact Sigma. Regards. I use a couple of my Canon lenses on the SL2 with MC-21, with no issues whatsoever. I suspect that Bernard is right, it could be the age of the lens. Your other option is to use a dumb adapter or tape over the contacts of the lens or adapter. This will give you full manual operation & the aperture will always be wide open, if of course that suits your requirements.

The Novoflex adapter is worse, I think you might be wasting your money. Late last year I did some tests & compared the Novoflex & MC-21 on the SL2-
