Are all other lenses sold by Leica "giving the names" to other manufactures design? Some M lenses are made in Wetzlar. I think S and SL lenses would be in-house, or between the two houses. I can only speculate from here. And I will guess that Leica do not make any AF lenses in their own factores in Germany or Portugal.
J.Nordvik Posted October 16, 2020 Share #23 Â Posted October 16, 2020 PS: Many camera brands do not make all the lenses in their own factories. Olympus, Pentax and Sony do not. Canon, Nikon and Fuji maybe?
verwackelt Posted October 16, 2020 Share #24 Â Posted October 16, 2020 And who makes the SL lenses if they are not fabricated in Germany or Portugal? Panasonic in China?

jaapv Posted October 16, 2020 Share #26  Posted October 16, 2020 Leica controls the design tightly, irrespective of manufacturer.
nicci78 Posted October 17, 2020 Share #27  Posted October 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Every Leica lenses are made in Wetzlar Germany with parts from their Portuguese factory. Except five TL lenses which are made by an unknown Japanese manufacturer. Panasonic Leica co branded lenses are not Leica lenses at all. Just a marketing scheme with a barely relevant certification from Leica consultants dispatched in Japan and China. Same for HuaWei and Insta360 + Leica co branded lenses. Just pure marketing with minimal intellectual exchange. So don’t be fooled. Just buy the real stuff, with made in Germany label.  NB : some M lenses are assembled in Portugal. Just to avoid US tariffs on German lenses . But it is only for US market
