Ktsa5239 Posted October 7, 2020 Share #1  Posted October 7, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Panasonic 70-200mm f4 have arrived today! Tested it out on the balcony and the AF is nice and snappy ! Will take it to the park and shoot some birds tomorrow if it doesnt rain. Im just thinking, is there any advantage going with the panasonic 1.4x teleconverter over the 2x apart from size and price? Am I right to think that I might as well go longer incase I need it? Or is there any drawbacks on the 2x ? Is image quality going to suffer with a bigger converter? Thanks

Thanks for your answer, is it noticeable with the 1.4x? should I not bother with the teleconverter and perhaps get the sigma 100-400 instead for longer reach? thanks
tritentrue Posted October 7, 2020 Share #4  Posted October 7, 2020 The Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/4 with the 1.4X teleconverter is capable of very good imagery.  As it zooms internally, it also handles well. The Sigma 100-400mm is a better value, has more reach, and works well with its own TC-1411 1.4X teleconverter. Assuming you're not expecting image quality approaching that of the better Leica R telephoto lenses, you may be satisfied with either lens.  I had the Lumix with both teleconverters and the Sigma with the 1.4X and recently got rid of both lenses. Other members here also have experience with one, the other, or both; and will hopefully share their views, which may be more favorable than mine.

I had the same "problem". The 70-200 is a very very good performer, and with the extenders, performance is still good. However, I ended up chosing the Sigma DG DN 100-400 and I will sell the 70-200. It will also be a substantial financial saving.

My Lumix, despite being an excellent performer, is now on sale.
Ktsa5239 Posted October 8, 2020 Author Share #7  Posted October 8, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the suggestions, the 200mm is still alittle short and had to crop in alot. I think the advantage of the teleconverter is that I wont need to carry another lens. But if the image quality is not as good I might just go for the sigma. I'll go and check one out at the shop. Took this shot yesterday but I think I might have missed focus abit or maybe its cropped in too much. Welcome, dear visitor! Reddy Posted February 28, 2022 Share #8  Posted February 28, 2022 Hello everyone, does anyone use the teleconverter 1.4x or 2x with the SL 90-280mm f2.8-4? How is it perform?

How is it perform? The 90-280 is not compatible. There is too much protrusion from the TCs to physically fit. Best options for reach are either the Panasonic 70-200 2.8 with 2x TC or the Sigma 150-600.

caissa Posted March 2, 2022 Share #11 Â Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) The Sigma 150-600 is my recommendation. With excellent IQ. But even with its 1.4x extender IQ is very high. (at 840). I try to avoid extenders as long as I can. (You loose both aperture and quality. Aperture is probably more important.) The lens is much bigger than the 70-200, but it is worth the effort. Instead of adding an extender the use of aps-c mode is often a better idea (factor 1.5 and no light loss, resulting in 900) Edited March 2, 2022 by caissa
