agencal Posted October 3, 2020 Share #1  Posted October 3, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) SL2 - SL 35mm Apo, M 50mm Apo, Coastal Optics 60mm Apo Macro, SL 90mm Apo. All lenses on SL2 and f8(in order to eliminate any focus errors or field curv.) With gitzo tripod and long focusing rail. There is normally a perspective difference between lenses.  MY FINDINGS 1.They are all world class lenses for sure. 2.SL2 has lots of noise at iso 100 in dark areas which i am not used to from medium format fuji bodies. 3.SL 90mm and 35mm apos are exceptional lenses wide open to f4 but after then they are not alone  4.SL Apos are a bit better at the corners but it may be a problem about sensor cover thickness. 5.M 50mm apo is a bit contrastier than coastal optics. 6.SL Apos bokeh is not as smooth as other two lenses(if i am seeing right) .They have more contrast at the out of focus areas which is strange. Karbe says visa versa. 7.I don't know if there is a drawing difference between lenses at f8 . I need to try them at f2 to f4 with a static subject under day light maybe.  This is the link for the full size images. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1iAhmehrMjp-UWIcKy_duu04YNUBQBN0D?usp=sharing Please share your findings as well.  Best Ahmed Welcome, dear visitor! See #18, #20, #21, #24, #25 here: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/303396-leica-sl2-dynamic-range/#comments. At least SL2 users get to use Summicrons. 😂

Chaemono Posted October 4, 2020 Share #5  Posted October 4, 2020 Topaz DeNoise AI can be used to eliminate the SL2's ISO 100 noise in pushed dark areas. This is a test shot taken today to illustrate how clean blacks can look. 1/160 sec. would have blown the sky. Less compressed JPEG here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-cMqxXt/ SL2 + 50 APO Summicron-SL as shot Welcome, dear visitor! Chaemono Posted October 4, 2020 Share #6  Posted October 4, 2020 Now the processed picture with Shadows +90 and Exposure +.55 in LR. DeNoise AI takes care of the noise in the blacks. I took the same picture with the S5 which has a 24 MPx BSI sensor. Needless to day, Shadows +90 doesn't cause any noise in pushed dark areas at ISO 100 in S5 files. Stuart Richardson Posted October 4, 2020 Share #7 Â Posted October 4, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think your point 7 is important. Testing these lenses at f8 is probably not the best way to do it, at least not for a test of which are truly the sharpest. They may already be limited by diffraction at that point. I think you will notice more difference wider open. Probably 2.8 to 4 will be the peak sharpness for much of the field. Of course, in real world situations with three dimensional objects, f8 or 11 may give better sharpness in your photo. Peter Karbe is pretty clear that the only reason one should stop down with the APO Summicrons is for depth of field.
