Hi gang,

After much internal debate I have decided that a 75/80mm Lux isn't for me (mostly because of cost), but I still have a hankering for a portrait lens with some extra magic and low light ability. As a quick refresh, I have an M-E 240 and SL with M adaptor plus 28mm Elmarit-M v4, 50mm Summicron-M v5 and 90mm Elmarit-M v2. The Cron is my go-to on the M, which I usually shoot around f8 but might stop down for portraits or when light requires.

My question is, does the 50mm Lux-R hold up to the Type 3 M? I could afford to get one of these as a special occasion lens for the SL and still keep the Cron on my M, which sounds about ideal. If not, I could sell the Cron and get a Lux-M pre-ASPH. Would this still satisfy me for shooting street or does it not quite live up to the Cron? I know that it's heavier, but I'm only 32 and lugged around a Canon 5diii + L glass until very recently. I'd also like to keep the classic Mandler rendering I get with my current trio.

Thanks for entertaining my rants and silly ideas!

Tedd,  why do you lust for  Summilux speed when you mostly shoot at f/8? I think your lies within your question.

I know, I'm a maniac! When I look back through my Canon archive I do find a few shots where I used my 50mm 1.2 pretty close to wide open, whether for low light or aesthetic, but I am mostly stopped down as street is usually my thing. I guess I just miss having the option?
