It would be awkward

More awkward than going that route in the first place? I think it was an education for many to learn their lenses, and cameras, were substantially built in Portugal, although this has been the case for many many years.

If they discontinue the Made in Portugal branding, I hope to see the remaining stock of those lenses heavily discounted. 😁

Wel,, the point is that those lenses are already discounted - compared to the ones marked "Made in Germany."

The question is whether Leica will revoke the 10% increases to German-made prices, which were the response to the US tariffs.

In both cases, BTW, only applying to lenses for the US market, which is the only place the tariffs applied.

My own guess is that Leica does nothing - except quit making the "Portugal lenses," and let the existing stock sell out. I suspect Leica was very careful to finish only a handful of "US Tariff" lenses in Portugal at a time, in full expectation that this was a temporary situation.

The tariffs were 25% for German lenses, but Leica decided to instead spread the price increase by 10% across most products, including cameras.

I have a Portugal 50mm 'Cron and I am very pleased. Can the APO be that much better?

Is the 50 APO better than the Portugal 50 'cron?   I would think it has to be better.

Whether it is $6400 better is another matter entirely - but now we are thinking/talking like normal working people who do not have unlimited discretionary cash reserves. 🤑
