Houdah appears to be a non-starter as it integrates with Photos, which I have disabled as far as possible on all my devices.

I don't use Apple's Photos either (too invasive!), other than for temp storage for photos taken with my iPhone.  I have other better and safer photo-archiving methods. I put the .dng files in the documents folder on my Mac and drag and drop them into Houdah from there for geocoding, and then move them to my Windows PC when done. No participation from Photos required.

I don't know what's so invasive about Photos. I haven't used it much (on my macOS system) either (I use it a lot on the iPhone), but I turned off the cloud and streaming features. However, I've been experimenting with it for use as an image management system alongside RAW Power to do raw conversion and image editing, on all three (macOS, iOS, iPadOS) and the system works pretty well together.

Photos is an easy and quick way to produce a casual photo book. :)

For someone that does landscape photography GPS location of the images is really useful. Not having the memory of an elephant and the anal catalogue organisational tendencies of some out there,  I frequently struggle to recall precisely where I took photos from ..... and often if you return the precise spot needs locating to within a few metres to get the same view. I've been in woodland recently and found a great location for some autumn or mist shots .... but I would really struggle to find my way back to the exact area. I have a track recorded on my iphone but that doesn't tell me where I took the photos. Any painless way to tag photos like on the original SL would be really helpful.

I do location hunting snaps with the iPhone or the Light L16, both of which automatically embed GPS data for that kind of use. Both are lightweight, pocketable, and allow me to scout without need for carrying heavier equipment. The phone in particular is always in my pocket anyway so it's no burden to carry it.

BTW, HoudahGeo will (optionally) use GPS4Cam's track logs for those of you that are a fan of that app (and can access it in your country)...
