I see many reviews on YouTube and in other places of each of those cameras. However, I haven't found a good review contrasting the two. Granted they're pretty close (just as the old CL and the CLE were). But are there reasons to prefer the D-Lux 7? Is the menu system different? I understand Leica's warranty might be longer on a new camera? Is the lens the same?

Do we believe this camera has a Leica type character in the color science and lens quality (yes I know it has Leica on the lens but is it a good lens)?

I like how compact is and I also like the leather shoulder "holster."

I saw a few from the original LX100 and the D-Lux 109 and apparently there was some minor differences in the JPG engine, but other than that no hand-picked specimens to add the Leica dot. I could assume in this case would be the same, bot excellent. In fact, I been trying to decide between getting another X1 (sold mine, regret it) or a the D-Lux 109 which can be found for the same money, roughly 500 USD.

There are some minor differences between the two such as the D-Lux 7 not supporting AVCHD in movie mode, slight differences in the menu UI, the phone apps are completely different and some of the buttons are labeled differently. I got my D-Lux 7 for the same price as a LX100 II so it was an easy decision for me at the time. From what I can tell there is no difference to the things that really matter like sensor, lens, JPEG engine or underlying SW stack that I can see. Some people seem to prefer the looks of the Leica over the Lumix and others prefer how the Lumix feels in their hands. To each his own. Since the rest of my stable is Lumix if I were to do this agin I would get the LX100 II. Regardless both are great cameras and the D-Lux has served me well as a travel camera.

I haven’t used either 2nd versions for much more than a short test. However I have both of the 1st versions - I had the LX100 but my wife needed it, so I bought a D-Lux to replace it. The differences are really minor:

  • The LX 100/II has a small grip, the D-Lux/7 has no grip, but that allows the use of the accessory grip. That’s a win for the Leica.
  • The menu highlighting on the Panasonic is very obvious, on the Leica it perhaps too subtle. That’s a win for Panasonic.
  • Same lens, same sensor. That’s a tie.
  • For how I use the cameras, as an “every day carry camera”, I haven’t noticed any significant difference between the files they create. Maybe if I wasted a day doing test shots under controlled conditions I’d see a difference. But maybe not, and in any case, that’s not photography.

If the same applies to the LX 100II and the D-Lux-7 and I was choosing again, I would choose the Leica for the better grip with the accessory grip, and my wife would choose the Panasonic for the easier to read menus.

I loved my X1, but the lack of VF really (for me) distracted from the overall love affair.. Yes there are external VF's available, but they distracts from the pocketable label.. I've had my D=Lux 7 for about a year, It took a leap of faith to go the for 7 as I was already about to pop for the Q2.. Results wise, the 7 does hit the mark. As for the Pany version, I prefer how the 7 looks..  L

I own them both.I couldn't get a straight answer ,so I bought both. With the Leica grip the d lux is a clear winner.I don't notice any difference in iq.The lumix is going too whichever grandkid shows interest.  The Leica with the grip has a great feel ,the grip on the lumix is a deal  breaker for me as I shoot with one hand.
