Peter Leica man Posted September 1, 2020 Author Share #21 Posted September 1, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well there was a development since I posted. Leica sent me some photos of the scratches on the optics. They've assured me they won't impact on the performance of the binoculars but those scratches make them virtually unsaleable. So I asked about repairing the scratches. They replied with a revised estimate. A rather less paletable €349.25. This does include all four glass elements replaced. And the eyecups replaced as well. I'm confident that Leica will do a good job but I've had a painful lesson about eBay and the lying you-know-what I bought them off.

Aloha, i would suggest getting them back to as near 100% as possible, yes I understand there is a cost involved.. Don't forget to give a bad Review oneBay & do a write up on Yelp.. Then have a scotch and move On.. Regards, L
Peter Leica man Posted September 2, 2020 Author Share #23 Posted September 2, 2020 I took the plunge, gave the go ahead for the repair yesterday and paid in full via debit card earlier today. Hopefully they'll be back reasonably quickly.
Peter Leica man Posted September 8, 2020 Author Share #24 Posted September 8, 2020 Well.. An update. I went onto the Leica Repair website only to discover that my binoculars were repaired, sent and delivered to an address in Derby, UK! I almost had a heart attack. So I rang Leica and the lady there said the binoculars were still there (relief for once!) but then told me that I hadn't paid for the repair! So I fired off a somewhat irritated email. I had a somewhat terse reply back stating I'd entered the wrong repair reference (might be the case to be fair) They did apologise for the confusion regarding my payment. Well, after all that, the repair has now been completed and they're on their way back to me with upgraded Aqua Dura objectives and eyepieces. I will be posting my impressions and some photos as soon as they arrive.
Peter Leica man Posted September 10, 2020 Author Share #25 Posted September 10, 2020 THEY'RE BACK ! Not 'good as new' BETTER ! So how do I make that out? Well I had the objective and eyepiece glasses replaced. And unlike when they went in, there's virtually zero Chromatic Abberation. The colour reproduction is on another level... Not sure why but it seems like I'm looking though the HD or even the HD plus version Well pleased. And thank you to those who suggested the repair.
