The 1.4 is exactly 1.4. When in doubt just ask them directly

I just got the lens, almost freaked out before I found this thread.
andybarton Posted September 30, 2020 Share #23 Posted September 30, 2020 Only if the aperture blades continue to open slightly if you can move the ring slightly beyond F1.

Not so much of an obsession, but rather personal preference. Circular bokeh balls look less distracting to my eyes than non circular ones. But it mostly only matters to me at night. a5m Posted October 3, 2020 Share #28 Posted October 3, 2020 Had a Noctilux 50/0.95 with this issue. What comes after eye watering? Anyway, it was out of warranty but I brought this to Leica NJ’s attention and they fixed it anyway. I’d imagine Leica Germany would be even more keen. I think your concern is legitimate. mmradman Posted October 3, 2020 Share #29 Posted October 3, 2020 Leica Lens Designer in Chief, Herr Peter Karbe speaks of Leica Lenses being best at their maximum aperture. Many businesses promote their products for obvious reason, to sell, however there is one thing what promoters say in public in well though out marketing presentations and the reality of the finished product, Leica is no exception. mmradman Posted October 3, 2020 Share #30 Posted October 3, 2020 In 2020 “bokeh” is very popular concept with lot of camera users, time will tell of its merits. In case of Leica lenses due to the premium one has to pay over the other brands the expectation is of utmost properties user may wish to exploit including perfect round hole at max aperture. To have a jagged lens inner rim due to sticking aperture blades at max aperture is not really one would associate with a premium brand.

One would expect eye wateringly expensive lens to be perfect in every way, that is how luxury goods are supposed to be sold. Try selling new Rolls Royce with a scratch on the bonnet. My first lens by Leica, back in 2009, was R APO Elemarit 180mm for which i changed mount flange from R to Nikon F, since than reversed to the original mount. As i was removing and re attaching the flange i noticed similar phenomenon with the aperture blades sticking out at max aperture but i was able to reduce the amount and even eliminate during the flange assembly. Thank you so much for your reply! I am totally agree with your opinion about selling luxury goods!
