Don’t rent. You need to calibrate your monitor every few weeks and these things are only a minor expense. If you buy into the Xrite system there will be a constant adaptation to the ambient light.

I've used both the Datacolor spyder and the X-rite i1 Display Pro on my iMacs.  I much prefer the Xrite product.   My preference is due to product support.    Xrite has so far issued software updates to keep my device working as I upgrade OS and hardware.   Datacolor, on the other hand, wanted me to buy the new improved unit and stopped supporting the software for the older units to get me to upgrade.   So I did.  I upgraded to  X-rite.
