Any downside using a longer lens hood??

I noticed that the lens hood on my elmarit 90-280 also fits my 24-90 and 50SL lenses. In the case of the 24-90, the lens hood is much longer, would this cause any issues when taking pictures?

This way I only need to carry one hood that fits everything and also fits better in the bag.

It will probably darken the corners more and more the wider you zoom. Why not take some pictures and see for yourself, it will be noticeable even on the back lcd

Hoods on zooms are shaped to work at the widest end, obviously. You could use the hood from the 90-280 at the long end of the 24-90. Otherwise it'll vignette.

I used my 70-200 at a comic con type convention indoors and somebody said I looked stupid using a hood indoors but I can't even estimate the number of people that bumped into my lens when walking through big crowds. For me I use it pretty much just as protection

I have to ask if you have several accounts here because I was browsing through this forum and found a question posted by user glogulus with the exact same title and the exact same question? 

Only difference is that glogulus managed to answer the question theirself...
